GUIDE ON HIPPO POINT & DODO'S TOWER IN KENYA
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Hippo Point & Dodo's Tower
Hippo Point and Dodo’s Tower at Lake Naivasha is a captivating, luxury accommodation set on the shores of one of Kenya’s most beautiful Great Rift Valley lakes. The private wildlife sanctuary is home to more than 450 species of birds that mingle with over varied herbivores and predators. Spending time on the shores of Lake Naivasha during your relaxed East African rift valley safari gives you the time you need to rejuvenate with a “slow safari” experience. The friendly and professional hospitality of the hosts and staff make you feel like you are visiting a long-time friend while exemplifying the charm of gracious, up-scale living in a Tudor manor. 14 colonial boutique rooms are situated in the manor and the whimsical, fairy tale-like Dodo’s tower. Built in the 1930’s, the Manor House features Elizabethan architecture and English gardens. You may choose from eight double bedrooms and one single bedroom in the Manor House, and two sections of the house are perfect for families who desire children-friendly Kenyan travel accommodations. Dodo’s Tower is an eight-story structure that is used as the owners’ second home and is only available to a restricted number of guests. Rated as one of the top wilderness lodgings in the world, the tower features a spiral wooden staircase, rich wood paneling and built-in bookshelves, leather furniture and many other exquisite, yesteryear decorative elements. You may choose from four double rooms and one single room on the ground floor. The tower sleeps a maximum of nine people, and families and small AfricanMecca groups can reserve the entire tower for the most exclusive Lake Naivasha premier holiday possible. From the tower, you see the bay of Lake Oloidien and resident wildlife grazing at the base of the structure. The only word that describes the experience is “magical paradise.” The magnificence of the Great Rift Valley and Lake Naivasha invite you to explore the pristine bush of the sanctuary. Freshly brewed tea or coffee and the aroma of sweet biscuits ease you out of a peaceful sleep at Hippo Point and Dodo’s Tower. Freshen up with a splash of water on your face, and then join your guide for a boating tour of Lake Naivasha combined with a walk on Crescent Island. Morning light is very photogenic for capturing wonderful images of cormorants, white-fronted bee-eaters, pied kingfishers, great white egrets and many other avian species. Breakfast is served in the manor dining room or under the acacias, and the heavenly fare includes fresh farm eggs, homemade cereal, fruits, juice, home jams and much more. Work off some calories with a guided morning walk, yoga or return to your room for a refreshing hot shower. Weather permitting, lunch is served poolside, and you have time for boating safari in Lake Naivasha or horse riding after afternoon tea on the verandah of Dodo’s Tower. A night game drive or sunset walk before dinner reveals the hidden world of nocturnal animals that emerge at twilight, and sunset should be enjoyed with a delicious cocktail. For an even more adventure-filled vacation in Kenya, AfricanMecca can arrange day trips to Lake Nakuru for a full day game drive or a walk on the shores of the bright green crater lake Sonachi in Crater Lake Game Sanctuary, Hell’s Gate National Park, as well as community visits to Loldia School, tours of Elsamere and much more.
