GUIDE ON ELSAMERE IN KENYA
Elsamere has a colonial style dining room that still has the antique furniture belonging to Joy Adamson. It has a quaint charm to it that guests historically vacationing in Kenya will love. Breakfast and dinner are served here. Begin your breakfast with a variety of fresh fruit and finish off with hot options. The lodge serves a buffet lunch in the garden shaded by stately trees in the company of the many birds that abound in Elsamere. Both hot and cold dishes are available and you can choose from a range of desserts. At high tea, which is served at mid-afternoon, they serve Kenyan tea and coffee, and the cakes and biscuits available have a homely flavor to them. During your dinner, you might spot a couple of hippos ambling into the garden for a nocturnal meal of lawn grass. The days you spend in Elsamere on your exploratory lake holiday in Africa will be filled with entertainment from the Colobus monkeys abound on trees and fascinating sights of dik diks, buffaloes, zebras, giraffes and gazelles roaming the property. Even as you relax in the garden, you can see flamingos, pelicans and cormorants around the lake. Also watch as a fish eagle swoops to catch a black bass or a tilapia from the lake. Experienced boatmen take you out over the lake to see the hippos wallowing in the swamp and the water birds up close. A visit to Crescent Island allows you to walk among the wildlife (read more on when is the best time to visit Lake Naivasha). Though, there are no predators on the island, buffalos and hippos are present and are equally perilous. A visit to Hell’s Gate National Park is the perfect opportunity to see smaller animals like caracals, mongoose, hyraxes, aardvarks, springhares and foxes. Alternatively, you can game drive at the nearby Lake Nakuru National Park to see large predators from lions, leopards to hyenas.
