GUIDE ON LAKE NAKURU SOPA LODGE IN KENYA
Lake Nakuru and its namesake national park where it is located in central Kenya is a stunningly gorgeous ecosystem that supports an incredible array of avian, terrestrial fauna and flora. The Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge is an economy vacation accommodation sited on the western shores of the lake. Well-landscaped gardens make up the property that offers you tranquility with sweeping views of the lake and its most famous seasonal denizens, the lesser and greater flamingos. Spend time in the bar lounge or on the adjacent verandah next to it. You could also relax beside the curving swimming pool or watch as your kids play in the wading pool. Choose from one of the 62 lodge rooms that the Lake Nakuru Sopa offers value holidaymakers. 54 of the roundish cottages are furnished with two double beds each with mosquito nets for your protection while 6 of them have one double bed. The rooms are child-friendly, and the accommodation also offers 2 specially equipped rooms for physically challenged AfricanMecca guests. The front of the hotel-like room has large windows with a seating arrangement beside them. You can also relax on your private veranda in comfortable deck chairs. The ensuite bathrooms include a tiled shower area, double basins and bidet along with the other unpretentious amenities typical of a no-frills establishment. The restaurant at the Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge is a spacious, welcoming space with a terrace. It also has a fireplace adding to its cozy ambience. You will be served adequate buffet meals cooked with ingredients sourced from local farms around Lake Naivasha. You could also order drinks from the bar with glass panoramic views of the reserve. From the lodge, Lake Nakuru will seem like it has a blue-green coloring, and this is because of the algae that thrive in it. You could travel closer to the lake to view the flamingos and 70 other wading birds (read more on the best time to go to Nakuru). The experienced East Africa specialist guide accompanying you will help you identify them by name. You will also be able to see some of the 56 species of mammals that drink from fresh water holes and springs. Among them are rhinos, waterbuck, reedbuck, zebras, gazelles, impalas, buffalos etc. Go on game drive tours to explore the diverse ecology of the park that includes acacia forests and bushy grasslands. In these environs, you could view rare fauna like the Rothschild’s giraffe and predators such as striped hyenas, lions, leopards and other smaller felines. The Lake Nakuru National Park is a veritable Eden for birdwatchers in Kenya, and more than 450 species of birds can be spotted here. You could also go on nature walks around the lodge grounds or in surrounding private conservancies, and perhaps, see them up, close and personal. On your strolls from Nakuru Sopa, the expert ranger guiding you will point to you many varieties of floral vegetation and its uses in natural elixirs. Include a trip to Baboon Cliff to your AfricanMecca itinerary and you could use the high vantage point to take panoramic photographs of this distinct Great Rift Valley ecology, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also, go exploring the swamps around the lake, candle tree forests on the eastern ridge and Makalia Falls on the south of the lake. The neighboring Naivasha is a distinct freshwater lake where you could go on a boat and watch hippos, crocodiles and other aquatic birds. Elementaita is also another nearby lake destination.
