GUIDE ON SANCTUARY FARM IN KENYA
Spend a distinct AfricanMecca vacation in Kenya on a 500-acre dairy farm that has a matchless facet. The farm not only produces milk products but horses are bred on it too. What's more, when you look around the farm, you will see cows and horses grazing peacefully side by side with zebras, dik diks, Thompson's and Grant's gazelle, impalas and wildebeests. From time to time, a giraffe might wander by examining the strategic way to pluck leaves from the thorny acacia trees for a succulent foliage snack, and if you were to wake during the night, you might spot a hippo munching on the grass outside your window. Owned by Francis Erskine and hosted by Guy and Julie Erskine, Sanctuary Farm is a value accommodation located on the banks of Lake Naivasha. The main house is a colonial-style bungalow where the Erskine family lives. But they have set aside 10 rooms for guests. An old stable yard houses the rooms, each with a bathroom and a patio, over two floors. If you are safari traveling in Kenya with family, you might find one of the five larger rooms more comfortable since they can accommodate extra beds for the kids. The structure also has a common lounge that has a very warm, homely atmosphere because of the fireplace and collection of books and games. Wi-Fi service is also available for your use.
Meals at the Sanctuary Farm are cooked using the fresh produce grown on the farm itself. Fruits, vegetables and herbs harvested at the farm, along with their own dairy products are used to prepare wholesome meals under the personal supervision of Julie Erskine. Have your meals at the Club House Cafe that is sited in an old refurbished polo clubhouse and do request for their vegetarian options. As you dine, you can watch as animals visit the polo ground in front of you, looking for meals of their own. You could also order drinks at their well-stocked bars. Since Sanctuary Farm is a conservation area by itself, you could spend part of your relaxed trip in Lake Naivasha (view map), simply sitting on your patio and viewing the animals outside your room. But when you do take a walk along the lake, you will see the many flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers and fish eagles flying around looking for nourishment. If you want to take a closer look, go for a boat ride and spot hippos in the lake, or opt for a walk on Crescent Island. You could also take a horse riding expedition to explore the rich forests around the lake and surrounding wildernesses. Sanctuary Farm has a strategic location that is close to the Hell’s Gate National Park where you may want to trek down to Njorowa Gorge and exfoliate in the geo-natural pool. You may also trek up Mount Longonot, an extinct volcano part of Hell’s Gate ecosystem or opt to tour Lake Nakuru National Park with AfricanMecca to view varied predators and their prey. Your evenings at Sanctuary will be filled with animated conversations with your hosts as you relax by the lakeside watching as the sun sets over the lake on your scenic Great Rift Valley holiday in East Africa.
