GUIDE ON OL PEJETA HOUSE IN KENYA
Ol Pejeta House takes you back to the yesteryears of colonialism and offers you a first-hand glimpse into the lifestyles of the settlers in Africa. This picturesque ranch has an extravagant house, formerly owned by Adnan Khasshoggi, is located in the 90,000 acres of the fenced Ol Pejeta Conservancy. With the foothills of the Aberdare Mountains on one side and the stately Mount Kenya on the other, the four-bedroom accommodation provides a safe haven for prolific wildlife. Your country-style vacation in Kenya in this mid-range accommodation will be filled with delectable meals, lazy afternoons by their two swimming pools and exciting game drives to see the magnificent creatures of Ol Pejeta. The main house of Ol Pejeta House is the typical country-style bungalow with red tiled roofs and carefully cultivated lawns. There are lounges with plush sofas you can sink into, hardwood floors, beautiful throw rugs and vaulted roofs supported by wooden beams. The main living room is tastefully appointed and has a fireplace with safari style paintings and other furniture. This taste is reflected in the spacious patio and dining room. On your dream tour of Laikipia with AfricanMecca, you can stay in one of the two suites and two rooms in the main house. The sheer elegance and opulence of the main suite brings a modest royal feel to it; though needing some contemporary uplift. It has a big bed with curtains for privacy and includes a seating area, walk-in closet with roomy wardrobes, dressing room and bathroom. The patio outside the suite overlooks the private pool. The second-master suite is sited on the first floor and includes a capacious bathroom with a stand-alone tub and shower room. The house also includes two guest bedrooms, each with an exclusive bathroom and balcony. Guests traveling in Africa in a group of four can opt for the wholesome Buffalo Cottage. Sited in an exclusive garden, it has its own lounge and dining area with a fireplace. Two bedrooms with attached bathrooms are included in the cottage. You can have your meals at the main house and they serve you buffet breakfast and lunch on an open veranda with views of the lodge's lawns. Dinner is served in the dining room. But if you would like to experience having your meals in the bush on your safari trip in Kenya with AfricanMecca, the lodge can make the necessary arrangements for you. Some of the dishes are cooked on site as per your preference while supplements are brought over from the lodge’s kitchen. Ol Pejeta Conservancy is known for the variety of wildlife it supports and on your game drive, you are likely to see the famous Big Five of Africa, the lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino. You will be assigned 4x4 safari vehicles and an expert, experienced guide will accompany you during your wilderness holiday. He will also point to you Grevy’s zebras and Jackson’s hartebeest, both of which are not found in other parts of Kenya. Ol Pejeta Conservancy has a community-initiated rhino conservation program that has successfully reared rhinos and relocated them to other reserves. You could also visit the Ol Pejeta Chimpanzee Sanctuary endorsed by the Jane Goodall Institute that houses orphaned and rescued chimps. Bush walks are another avenue where you can understand better the flora and fauna of Africa by sound, smell and touch.
