GUIDE ON SABUK IN KENYA
Sabuk Lodge is a premier accommodation tucked away in the north of Laikipia in the river valley of the Ewaso Nyiro. Laikipia is perhaps one of the last untouched wildernesses in Kenya where efforts are being made by the local people and conservation enterprises for authentic sustainability of its terrestrial, aquatic and avian inhabitants. And discerning adventurers appreciate their wilderness holiday in northern Laikipia with its indulgent vistas of breathtakingly and beautiful landscape. Sitting on the west escarpment, overlooking the river, this elegant rural lodge is a fascinating creation of natural materials like stone, thatch, rough wood and mud combined together. The main lounge-cum-dining area of Sabuk, like all its cottages are perched on rocky crags, each providing a different view of the chocolate colored Ewaso Nyiro River flowing lazily below. They also have an infinity pool with two levels, again at the edge of a precipice for you to cool off in while watching the sunlight playing on the surrounding hills. Hammocks and comfortable seats with cushions fashioned by hand out of tree trunks are scattered everywhere along with carved art of metal, stone and wood somehow creating a chic rustic ambience. The lodge is open to nature and as AfricanMecca guests sleep only diaphanous mosquito nets come between you and the soft breeze and scents of the wilderness around you. Sabuk Lodge has 6 rooms in individual cottages, some of which have a double bed while others have twin beds. Each of the rooms has an exclusive bathroom with an open-air bath with a spectacular view for you to soak and revel in the gorgeous wild country all around you. Families traveling with AfricanMecca can opt for the capacious Eagle Cottage that comprises of two bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms. The cottage has an exclusive living room and dining area along with a plunge pool and a dedicated team of staff members are assigned to take care of any guest requirement. Your meals on your delectable trip in Kenya are an adventure by themselves. Residents of Eagle Cottage can dine in their dining area while other guests can also choose to have their meals al fresco. At sunset, a fire is lit in the lounge and the warm tones add to the romantic aura of classic South African wines served to you. Sample delicious Sabuk Honey and on your request, special dishes typical of a Kenyan kitchen will be cooked for you. You can also dine on the open deck underneath the African glittering night skies while absorbing to the harmony of nocturnal sounds and the rustling river below you. You can go on bush walks to explore the river and its surrounding areas. Your expert naturalist guide will show you how to identify animal tracks and distinguish birds by listening to their calls. Learn about which plants and berries are poisonous and which can be turned into curative medicines. Your game drives when touring northern Laikipia are an interesting opportunity to view animals like elephants, greater kudus, cape buffaloes, impalas, zebras, klipspringers, reticulated giraffes and other herbivores. And keeping watch on them with you are predators like lions, leopards, wild dogs and more. Go fly camping with camels that tow-to-tote your supplies or fish in the river to catch tilapia, barbels and catfish. You could also take a cool, refreshing dip in the waters of the river. Stay at Sabuk Lodge for a luxurious outback vacation in East Africa.
