GUIDE ON LEMARTI'S CAMP IN KENYA
Sited in the shade of a regal, 100-year old fig tree with the Ewaso Nyiro River flowing lazily by, Lemarti’s Camp offers you the rare opportunity to experience Laikipia in its true essence under the friendly guidance of its people. Loyapan Lemarti and Boniface Parsulan who manage Lemarti’s Camp belong to the Samburu and Laikipian Maasai communities respectively and welcome couples, solo and families traveling in Africa with enthusiasm and warmth. Lemarti's comprises of deluxe tents, which house an elegant lounge with hardwood floors adorned with lanterns and other ethnic curios. Plush sofas and comfortable floor seating with a selection of educational tomes are available for your use. As fascinating are their 5 tents in which guests on a wilderness tour of Laikipia are accommodated. In all, the 5 tents can sleep 10 adults and each tent is spacious enough to add beds for children making the camp ideal for a family trip in Kenya with AfricanMecca. Completely made with canvas, two walls of the tents have netted panels that let in the cool breeze and light while the front and back walls can be rolled back to allow entry into the tents. Throw pillows with brightly colored African prints, lanterns and other artifacts add to the warm ambience of the tent that has a comfortable double bed and a seating arrangement. The attached bathroom is open to the sky on a raised platform and has a rustic charm. Mud walls offer privacy while you soak in a quaint tin bathtub filled with hot water heated on log fires or you can enjoy the bush shower experience. There is no running water here so the clear liquid is brought in each time (read more on where else to stay in Laikipia Conservancy). The camp operates on eco-friendly principles and all its waste is disposed of with minimal strain on the delicate eco-system of Laikipia. Solar panels generate the electricity needed to charge electronics and the cleansing agents the camp uses are all biodegradable. Lanterns are used for nighttime lighting. You will sense the deep respect the camp has for the last nook in Kenya that has remained untouched by the outside world. The ingredients they use for your meals are harvested with high quality in mind and diligently cooked by Samburu chefs with careful regard for your special dietary requirement. The time you spend at Lemarti's Camp is a complete adventure by itself. Even as you relax in your tented room, you will be able to watch elephants ambling by and monkeys frolicking in the trees. Your hosts, Lemarti and Parsulan, are experienced animals trackers and will regale you with recounts of their lives in the bush and the animals you will encounter. They love interacting with children and might even join them for a splashing match in the river. The conservatory across the Ewaso Nyiro River is accessible only to guests of Lemarti's Camp vacationing in this expanse of Laikipia, and you will have the privilege of exploring it during your game drives, which are conducted in the mornings and evenings; however, wildlife concentrations here are truncated. Laikipia is known for its population of rhinos and wild dogs, and your expert guide will mentor you how to track and spot them in the shrubs. There are also more than 440 bird species here together with predators like lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas and more. AfricanMecca guest’s primary activity at Lemarti’s is walking safaris with the engrossment in the cultures of the Samburu and the Maasai. Bush walk under the supervision of your guides offers an attention-grabbing avenue to explore the flora and fauna of Laikipia. You will love to learn about the traditional medicines derived from the plants and the lifestyles of a distinct tribe that is in perfect harmonious synchronization with their world. Visit Lemarti’s Camp and enjoy an exhilarating and informative safari holiday in East Africa.
