MBWENI RUINS HOTEL IN ZANZIBAR
Coastal vacationing in Zanzibar will completely enchant you with centuries-old attractions, and 10 minutes south of Stone Town, you could choose to live in a setting that still whispers of a bygone era, the Mbweni Ruins. Owned by Marriott under the Protea brand, the Mbweni Ruins Hotel is an economy accommodation that takes its name from its surrounding slice of mystic and history. It is recommended for value guests who want a secluded seaside location very close to Stone Town. Go for long walks along their beach or stroll on the pier that extends out into the blue waters of the warm Indian Ocean; thereafter, lounge beside their swimming pool in comfortable loungers and soak up the warmth of the tropical sun on your island holiday in East Africa. Revel in the accommodation’s quaint ambience created by traditional Zanzibari furniture, carved trellis along the entrance and the stone-paved pathways that meander through their gardens. They have a collection of just 12 rooms located in two-story structures. Each of the rooms comes with four-poster Zanzibari beds with mosquito netting, air-conditioning, tea and coffee making equipment, ceiling fan, satellite TV and a safety deposit box that is roomy enough to store your laptop and other electronic devices. Solo or two guests can opt for the Standard Twin Rooms while couples will find the Standard Double Rooms modestly comfortable. Parents vacationing in Zanzibar with their young children can opt for the Suite. The Mbweni Ruins Hotel has an in-house main restaurant, the Rain Tree that also includes an intimate small bar. The restaurant has tiled flooring with a vaulted thatched roof and open sides to allow the tropical breeze to flow in. There is also a multi-level wooden deck on the beach for an al-fresco meal setting, along with an extended pier affording stunning views of the ocean and sunset. Use this opportunity of your wilderness tour in Tanzania to introduce yourself and family to the delightful denizens of Jozani Forest in the heart of the island, a reserve set aside for the rare red colobus monkey. Learn more about their behavior and habitat even as you explore the incredible diversity of flora the woodland hosts. You could also trip out with an AfricanMecca guide to the island city's capital, Stone Town, where there are many thought-provoking traces of Zanzibar's rich culture in the imposing structures. Shop for exquisitely carved mementos of your travel in Zanzibar and sample the succulent seafood flavored with spices, cooked to your taste at a local restaurant. If you would like to view the spices in their fresh, natural form, you must tour the spice and fruit plantations of Zanzibar. Learn how the seasonings are harvested and enlighten yourself about the wonderful medicinal properties they have. Zanzibar is famous for its unusual fruits too and you can try fenesi, shoki shoki, durians and many more. Revel in a stirring fishing excursion you can undertake to some of the deep-ocean sites around the island. You can also go scuba diving and snorkeling at the reefs around Stone Town and also in the northeast at Mnemba Atoll off the Matemwe Beach, a marine reserve set aside for the protection of the diverse coral gardens. Watch the colorful fish, turtles, rays, eels and other marine creatures as they dart between the waving coral.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
