CHANGUU ISLAND LODGE IN ZANZIBAR
Prison Island or Changuu Island is a part of Zanzibar's intriguing history. Sited off the western coast of Zanzibar, it is a haven for giant Aldabra tortoises and varied bird species. Exquisite white sand beaches, coral cliffs and enchanting pools cradled in rocks hidden in the lush tropical woods create the idyllic location for an Indian Ocean holiday in Africa. The accommodation on this island is an economy establishment with a strong colonial flavor. A long pier extends into the ocean where you can enjoy taking strolls while the free-form swimming pool with comfortable loungers all around is an inviting spot for relaxed sunbathing sessions. Changuu Island Lodge has rooms with sea vistas in two different locations and specifications. On the northwest of the island is a collection of 15 cottages built with naturally occurring materials with thatched roofs and painted mud walls that serve to keep the interiors cool. Wide patios allow for relaxing afternoons as you revel in the beauty of your surroundings. Zanzibari four poster beds draped with mosquito nets and colorful furnishings make the rooms comfortable while the ensuite bathroom includes twin vanities and an elevated stone tub. You could also stay in the southwest section of the island facing Stone Town where 12 cottages are located in the historic quarantine zone of Prison Island. Watch them grooming one another and feeding even as your expert AfricanMecca guide talks to you about the amazing species of flora and other smaller fauna, from birds, butterflies, frogs, lizards to suni antelope, sykes monkey and more. While traveling around Zanzibar, you could visit the famous spice and fruit plantations that were the cause of the conquered island seeing much strife in its heyday. The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
