VILLA DE COCO IN ZANZIBAR
Owned and managed by Manuela and Sadick, the Villa de Coco is a serene corner of Jambiani Beach on the southeastern shore of Zanzibar Island (read more on where else to stay in). Wake up on your coastal tour of East Africa to spectacular sunrises and spend your days taking long walks along the shimmering white sands of the beach when the tide is out, identifying the varied seashells and delighting at the sight of starfish, hermit crabs and many more stranded in pools left by the ebbing tide. When the tide is in, go swimming in the tepid waters of the ocean and revel in snorkeling expeditions in designated sites. The Villa de Coco is an unpretentious accommodation for economy guests vacationing in Zanzibar, built partly of coco-palm wood and makuti thatch with an agreeable ambience and charm. They have a collection of for bungalows with shuttered windows that house the 11 rooms, each of which can accommodate two, three of four AfricanMecca guests. The rooms are furnished with four poster Zanzibari beds draped with mosquito nets. The rooms all offer views of the gardens and ocean and are modestly equipped with a ceiling fan. The ensuite bathroom has running hot water for showers and a hairdryer. If you need telephone, laundry, safe deposit or internet services, you have to pay extra. The hotel's in-house restaurant offers an open air dining experience with sea breezes wafting through its open sides. Enjoy choosing breakfast fare from the retired dhow placed in the restaurant. They also serve multi-cuisine dishes from Italian to Swahili fares during lunch and dinner. During the day, drinks can be ordered at the bar which is close to the seaside. Sip them as you enjoy relaxed moments on your dream trip in Africa. While you can spend your entire holiday in Zanzibar lounging on the beach at Villa de Coco, you must explore the other charms of this incredible island. Go shopping for artifacts, jewelry and textiles in its ancient bazaars and enjoy viewing the regal buildings, each a silent testimony of a different age of Zanzibar's fused heritage. Listen with awe as your AfricanMecca guide relates to you the story behind the edifice of each. You could also explore the spice farms that the island is so famous for. As you view the spices growing on the trees, you will learn of their many uses aside from flavoring food such as medicines and coloring for fabrics. You can also go on a primate viewing expedition in the Jozani Forest, a reserve set aside for the protection of the kirk’s red colobus monkey that are endemic to Zanzibar. Thanks to conservation efforts, these delightful creatures are now making a comeback. If you would like to visit a marine reserve, the Mnemba Atoll in the northeast near Matemwe is the superlative location to view colorful coral gardens teeming with an astounding variety of reef denizens, from colorful fishes, turtles to sea anemones, to name a few. Fishing aficionados can make deep sea angling the highlight of the travel in Tanzania. Quest out for tuna, marlins, wahoo, kingfish, sailfish, swordfish and many other varieties.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

I booked my safari holiday through AfricanMecca. They were the most helpful company I have ever dealt with and I work within the travel industry. I had the most amazing time. The holiday went as clockwork with no hitches anywhere.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
