BLUE OYSTER HOTEL IN ZANZIBAR
An unobtrusive tropical location on the southeast shore of Zanzibar Island, near Jambiani Village, is the frugal Blue Oyster Hotel. Set on the beach, you can spend time on your Zanzibar holiday in comfortable loungers as you soak up the pacifying rays of the sun. The soft white sands under your feet and the cool shade of the palm trees overhead form the ideal ambience for long siestas after languid swims in the sea (read more on when is the best time to go to Zanzibar). The glistening, azure waters of the Indian Ocean are a sheer pleasure for the eyes and you can revel in its beauty as you sip cool drinks from traditional boat-shaped bar by the sand. The Blue Oyster has 13 rooms for budget AfricanMecca guests traveling in this island region of Tanzania, circling around a central courtyard with a pleasing tropical garden in it. Located in two-story structures with 4 rooms apiece, the rooms face the ocean and allow soothing breezes through shuttered windows that waft through them. Traditional Zanzibari four-poster bed graces the room along with other quaint furniture inlaid with mother of pearl designs including an Omani-Swahili-style corner shelf unit, simple dresser chair and table. Depending on the level where you room is located, you will have your own patio or balcony furnished with comfortable chairs with perhaps an odd seashell adorning a quiet corner. The hotel’s restaurant is located in the main building above the reception. A thatched roof with a bar in one corner and views of the ocean add taste to the hearty meals you will enjoy. You will be pleasantly surprised to learn that the calm, shimmering Jambiani waters before you have a stunning hidden world under them, that of the coral gardens, populated with a plethora of marine creatures such as reef fish, sea urchins, sea anemones, turtles, eels and many more. Go scuba diving and snorkeling to discover them around Jambiani with an optional excursion to Mnemba Atoll. From Blue Oyster Hotel, you could also visit the terrestrial reserve of Jozani Forest located in the midst of Zanzibar. Enjoy the antics of the red colobus monkey and sykes' monkey amongst others diverse varieties of smaller fauna and flora native to the island. A trip to the spice farms of Zanzibar is a must-do while vacationing in East Africa. You can watch the spices being harvested from the trees and even taste them in their natural form. Also, taste the many distinct fruits that grow here like shoki shoki, custard apple, fenesi, bungo, durian and many more. Later your veteran AfricanMecca guide will take you tour the ancient Stone Town, the embryonic capital of the island. Here you can pick up some exquisite hand-crafted artifacts, delicate bead jewelry, hand- woven textiles and much more. View the majestic old architectural wonders that talk about the rich cultural heritage of Zanzibar as your guide relates to you the many sagas behind each. Discover the Anglican Church, House of Wonders, Sultan's Palace and many merchant mansions crafted out of coral limestone and covered with lichens. For the perfect end to you adventure trip in Zanzibar, book a fishing boat with a skipper and visit the varied deep water sites around the island where you can spend time angling for some of the stalwarts of the mighty ocean.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
