NGALAWA BEACH VILLAGE IN ZANZIBAR
Located on the eastern coast of Zanzibar, south of Uroa Beach and close to the ChwakaVillage, is the value Ngalawa Beach Village. Owned and operated by a Canadian couple, this agreeable property features citrus, cyrus and neem trees with colorful flowers and other lush tropical greenery beside the white sands of the seaside. The glistening blue of the Indian Ocean lies before you while the white sails of the local fishing boats, Ngalawas, dot the horizon. Enjoy your barefoot vacation in this tranquil accommodation spending time beside the swimming pool, on the sunbathing deck or in rope bed loungers on the beach. You could also take relaxing massages at the spa. Ngalawa Beach Village is made up of a collection of thatched roofed structures arranged around the swimming pool and outer gardens. It offers AfricanMecca holidaymakers 19 ocean-view rooms including a Beach Cottage, Family Suite and Honeymoon Suite. The rooms on the lower floor have a little patio while those on the upper floor come with a verandah. Traditional double beds with mosquito netting suspended from the roof grace the rooms along with a large dresser that also serves as a writing desk. Tea and coffee making supplies and a safety deposit box are also available. Some of the rooms also have a third bed to sleep an added guest and a small seating arrangement. The ensuite bathrooms have essential toiletries, hairdryer and bidet. Enjoy a selection of varied Tanzanian and international cuisine accompanied by fresh fruit from the resort's gardens in their open restaurant or order drinks at the bar. You can also play a game of billiards, board games like scrabble, chess etc. or simply relax in the lounge on a deck above the beachfront. For more thrilling activities in Zanzibar, book an afternoon ofangling aboard one of the fishing boats. Under the expert guidance of the skipper, you might be able to meet some of the East Africa’s stalwarts of the Indian Ocean like marlins, swordfish, sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado and trevally to name a few. Trip around the capital of the island, Stone Town and wander the narrow alleyways lined with tiny stores that sell you a range of items like handcrafted curios, spices, colorful, ceramic bead jewelry and gorgeous Swahili textiles. Also, view the architectural wonders that stand in mute testimony to the island’s intriguing past. Later, you could travel to the Jozani Forest Reserve, a conservation site set aside for the proliferation of the rare red colobus monkey. They now number close over 2000 and can be seen grooming one another or foraging for food. Touring the spice farms is another must-do activity. Here, you can view the many zests Zanzibar is famous for. Learn about their many medicinal uses and their part in the religious rituals of the island. You could also view fruits like shoki-shoki, bungo, durian, custard apples, papaya, banana and many more. On a separate leisure day at Ngalawa Beach Village, add a Mnemba Atoll scuba diving and snorkeling foray to your AfricanMecca itinerary allowing you to explore underwater realms where stunning varieties of coral thrive. These gardens teem with a number of delightful reef creatures such as varied, colorful fishes, turtles, dolphins, shellfish, eels, nudibranchs, seahorses and many more.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
