MICHAMVI SUNSET BAY RESORT IN ZANZIBAR
Sited on a quiet corner on the eastern beach of Zanzibar, overlooking the gorgeous Chwaka Bay is the no-frills Michamwi Sunset Bay Resort. Originally built as a center for watersports, the resort has been transformed to a tranquil piece of property with landscaped gardens and walkways leading up to the rooms, restaurants and swimming pool. Palm trees and thatched umbrellas offer shade for the loungers set out for leisurely siestas on your seaside vacation in the warm tropical sun, and the thatched roofs of the structures give you the feel of East African island living. The shimmering turquoise of the Indian Ocean spreads before you even as the waves gently lap on the powdery soft white sands. Michamwi Sunset Bay Resort has just 20 rooms perfectly suited for the economy traveler. These rooms are located in two-story building blocks of four rooms or six rooms each with two or three rooms on the lower floor and another two or three on the higher. The rooms on the lower floor have patios while the ones on the upper floor have a balcony where you can sip drinks and enjoy the cool ocean breezes. Each of the rooms is air-conditioned and includes a comfortable king sized bed with mosquito netting for your protection. The hotel also offers to arrange for twin or triple rooms as per your beach holiday specifications. The bathrooms in four of the rooms have a walk-in shower with double basins while the other sixteen rooms include a bathtub and shower, but single basin. The accommodation has two restaurants, the sea front Sea Breezes Restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and the main restaurant serves dinner. You can order drinks and cocktails at the beachside Sunset Bar. The ancient island of Zanzibar has many attractions to offer, and you can spend your time exploring its laid-back lifestyle that belies its tumultuous past. From Michamwi Sunset Bay Resort, trip out with your AfricanMecca guide to the capital, Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and view the many olden architectural wonders that each has a story to tell such as the Anglican Church, Sultan's Palace, House of Wonders, Forodhani Gardens and many more. Go souvenir shopping in the quaint bazaars, and you could shop for wares much like the Omani royalty of yore. Next, on your Tanzania itinerary should be a tour to the local spice farmlands where you can view spices like cardamom, cloves, ginger and many more. You can also see the many unusual fruits endemic to the island. Zanzibar and its surrounding areas have distinct conservation sites. In the floral heart of the island is the Jozani Reserve, set aside for the proliferation of Kirk’s red colobus monkey, a gorgeous primate making a comeback from the edge of endangerment. Hidden under the waters of the ocean are numerous coral gardens, considered the rainforests of the ocean, perfect for diving and snorkeling excursions. They are the home of an incredible variety of reef fish and other fascinating aquatic creatures like turtles, dolphins, eels, seahorses and rays, to name a scarce few. Further out, in the deeper sections of the ocean are the pelagic game fish, and here, you can go fishing under the supervision of an experienced Zanzibari skipper.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
