KICHANGA LODGE IN ZANZIBAR
Sprawled on a slight slope ending in the gorgeous white-sand Michamwi Beach is the Kichanga Lodge, an economy accommodation in the eastside of Zanzibar (view other places to stay here). This property is covered with lush green tropical gardens and comprises of a collection of ochre villas covered with thatched roofs to give you an authentic taste of island living on your seaside holiday in Eastern Africa. Paved pathways lead between the villas, lounge and beach that is accessible by a short flight of steps. You can also spend time beside the oval swimming pool or on the beach lounging in daybeds in complete tranquility. The hotel also has a small spa for simple massages on the beach. Kichanga has 24 rooms located in bungalow villas avail to you during your AfricanMecca barefoot trip to this Tanzanian island. You will appreciate their coastal rustic look with thatched roofs supported on a framework of coconut. Wooden posts make up the bed while rope work makes up the luggage rack and seats. Mosquito netting covers the beds, ceiling fans cool the rooms alongside a patio or verandah for reveling in the glorious panoramas of the Indian Ocean or the gardens. Couples can opt for one of the 11 Ocean View Bungalows while budget newlyweds can choose to stay in the VIP Honeymoon Suite. Both classes offer views of the ocean. The lodge also has 6 Garden Bungalows. Each of the rooms in these villas can sleep two guests, but they also have interconnecting doors, so if you are traveling with children, you can opt for these rooms. Kinfolks will also find the 1 Family Bungalow or the 5 Private Villas with two-story very comfortable. Kichanga serves appetizing meals in their open-air sided restaurant that follows the island theme in decor. You can order drinks at the bar in the lounge or at the beachside bar. Zanzibar Island has a something for every kind of Kichanga vacationer. Wildlife aficionados can visit the Jozani Forest Reserve for a primate-viewing tour. This conservation area hosts the rare red colobus monkey. Watch these fascinating creatures as they forage for food and groom their young. Or, you could go snorkeling and scuba diving in the underwater coral gardens of Zanzibar. There are several protected sites like Mnemba Atoll or Chumbe where you can view a marvelous diversity of reef life. Cultural buffs will find the old buildings and historic ambience of Stone Town very enlightening. Your proficient AfricanMecca guide will talk to you about the history of Zanzibar reflected in these structures and the tales behind their construction. You could also go shopping in the ancient bazaars where a range of wares awaits your discovery. Look for beautiful Swahili fabrics, delicate bead jewelry, intricately carved curios and so much more. You must also tour the spice and fruit farms. Here you will also learn about the medicinal elixirs that can be made from cinnamon, cloves, cardamoms, anise, ginger, aloe vera and many more. Also, view the distinct fruits that grow here like bungo, durian and shoki-shoki along with some more familiar ones. You could also spend an afternoon aboard one of the fishing boats cruising along the designated sites around the island. Pick up some angling tips from your experienced skipper as you look for marlins, swordfish, sailfish, trevally and dorado among others.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
