DAR HOUSE ZANZIBAR
Nestled in a secluded corner of Pingwe Village on the powdery white sands of Michamwi Beach is the Dar House Zanzibar. If you have always dreamed of staying in a luxurious house beside the sea where your every whim and fancy is carefully catered to as you enjoy your idyllic holiday in the eastern shore of Zanzibar, then this house is the place you want to be. Built in authentic Zanzibar architectural style, the Dar House has white washed walls with thatched roofs on a framework of coconut poles and a decor that is charming with an understated elegance. An elongated, curving swimming pool in the front of the house is perfect for children frolicking or parents cooling off while the expansive patio is ideal for enjoying the stunning view of the Indian Ocean across your private garden. You can book the entire accommodation and enjoy your beachfront vacation in complete privacy with only a very discreet staff that takes care of the cooking and other housekeeping chores. Groups of up to eight AfricanMecca guests can sleep in the four bedrooms of the property. These rooms are arranged around a central lounge, and each has an ensuite bathroom. Three of the rooms are furnished with plush king sized double beds while the fourth bedroom has twin beds. Mosquito netting, woven mats on the floor and shuttered windows add to the coziness. You can also spend time in the TV room curled up on the cushioned seats. The Dar House Zanzibar has an additional living area on a higher floor accessible by a flight of stairs. This area also has a dining arrangement where you can enjoy delicious meals cooked to your taste accompanied with a selection of excellent wines. At low tide, you can walk to the pools left behind by the receding tide and look for tiny sea creatures and shells in them. But, to view them in their oceanic setting, you must go scuba diving at Mnemba or snorkeling in the coral marine reserves such as Chumbe. There are also distinct deep-water sites off this East African island where you can go fishing under the guidance of an experienced local skipper. Yellowfin tuna, dorado, marlin, swordfish, trevally, sailfish and kingfish are only some of the game fish you can encounter. Zanzibar also has a rich cultural heritage that includes elements of Asia, mainland Tanzania and Arabia along with influences of Europe. And all of these elements are evident in the architectural relics you will see at Stone Town, its capital, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also go on a shopping trip in the ancient bazaars that line the narrow alleyways. Enjoy negotiating as you bargain for reduced prices on Swahili textiles, spices, superb curios and delicate ceramic bead jewelry. Tour the spice and fruit farmlands with your knowledgeable AfricanMecca guide, and you will learn about distinct faith rites in which spices form an important fixture. Also, learn about their medicinal properties and uses in coloring fabrics aside from flavoring food. You will also get a grasp unusual fruits and its unique names that grow on the island. There are shoki-shoki, durian, bungo, fenesi and many more. Travel out to the Jozani Forest Reserve to meet another unique creature, the red colobus monkeys, which are slowly recovering from being pushed to the brink of extinction.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
