CHWAKA BAY RESORT IN ZANZIBAR
Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Chwaka Bay Resort
A tranquil budget holiday on Zanzibar's secluded sun-kissed tan sand beach of Chwaka, away from the masses, where the warm blue waters lures and the palms sways to the music of ocean breezes, if that is what you are looking for then the Chwaka Bay Resort should be your destination on your AfricanMecca travels. The resort offers a no-frills stay where you can spend time beside the curving swimming pool under large makuti thatch parasols on comfortable loungers. Go for long walks on the pristine shore to watch coastal farmers harvesting seaweed or look for tiny sea creatures in the pools left by the receding tide. The resort offers 30 rooms in all to value guests traveling to this coastal wild of East Africa (read more on where else to stay on the island of Zanzibar). The 20 Deluxe Rooms are located in two-story structures while 10 Chalets are stand-alone cottages. Furnished with a quaint Zanzibari four-poster bed, closet, chairs and side tables, the rooms have a homely feel to them. Mosquito netting covers the beds while ceiling fans and air-conditioning circulates-cum-cools the room. There is also a mini-fridge, hairdryer, tea and coffee making supplies and safe deposit box. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin. The rooms on the upper story come with a balcony while the lower floor rooms have a patio. All of the rooms can accommodate an added bed for a third guest. Enjoy tasty multi-cuisine meals at the hotel’s in-house restaurant, Kigeni, housed in an open-air structure with an agreeable ambience. You could also order fruit juices and light snacks while frolicking in the pool at their poolside outlet, TIA (This Is Africa). Begin your vacation touring of Zanzibar from Chwaka Bay with an exploration of its capital, Stone Town. A quaint section of the metropolis with labyrinth alleyways, ancient limestone buildings covered with lichen and tiny shops selling you wares of yore, it has an unending, captivating charm of yesteryear souk. Indulge in beautifully carved souvenirs here to take home for your friends and family. Your knowledgeable AfricanMecca guide will take you to see the Anglican Church, House of Wonders, Tippu Tip’s House, Sultan's Palace and many more. In the midst of the island is the Jozani Forest, a reserve set aside for the conservation of a unique primate species, the red colobus monkey. There are also the spice farms of Zanzibar that placed the island on the legendary spice route and made it the target of much strife among many ancient rulers. Learn about their many medicinal properties and uses aside from flavoring food. You could also study the intricate techniques of harvesting them, a fascinating gardening lesson to remember from your unforgettable trip in Tanzania. Taste the many unusual fruits that grow here and their exotic names like shoki-shoki, fenesi, durian etc. The waters off the coast of Zanzibar conceal a stunning underwater realm that you must explore. Go on scuba diving and snorkeling excursions in the coral gardens of Mnemba Atoll on the northeast of the island, a marine reserve where you will be introduced to a diverse array of species of reef fish and other aquatic creatures in different shapes, sizes, and colors. Both amateur and seasoned fishermen can add an angling foray in the deep seas of Africa. Try catching kingfish, wahoo, swordfish, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, and marlins to name a few.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
