BOUTIQUE HOTEL MATLAI IN ZANZIBAR
Nestled in a grove of lush tropical greenery beside the stunning turquoise of the Indian Ocean waters gently lapping on the powdery white sands of the Michamwi Beach in the eastern expanse of Zanzibar is the Boutique Hotel Matlai. Built in a pleasing architectural style that combines rusticity and contemporary elements, this mid-range accommodation has a lovely seaside vacationing location. Rough-hewn wooden furniture, makuti thatched roofs, wooden screens blend with the figure-eight shaped pool in the center of the main villa. You can spend time in the resort’s lounge located in the middle with a good book from their library while enjoying the tranquil and serene sea breezes. You will also have a personal attendant who takes care of all your needs. The main house, Asilia, of the Boutique Hotel Matlai has just 4 rooms for like-minded barefoot travelers located in two wings on either side of the lounge, two on the lower floor, the Maji and Dunia; and the other two on the upper floor, Hawa and Moto. The hotel also offers the exclusive Villa Kidosho with two rooms, the Suite Jua and Suite Mwezi. Each of the rooms comes with a dresser, ceiling fan, writing desk and safety deposit box for valuables and private terrace furnished with daybeds. The rooms are air-conditioned, furnished with a plush bed with mosquito netting, and spacious enough to sleep added AfricanMecca lodgers. Ensuite bathrooms include a bathtub, shower, twin vanities, hairdryer, deluxe toiletries, bathrobe and slippers. The common areas include a terrace with pool entrance, dining area, lounge and coffee bar. The Matlai ZanziBar Bar & Restaurant serves you delicious meals in the dining areas of both villas. Choose from a selection of cuisines prepared and served with care. During your leisure days at Boutique Hotel Matlai, AfricanMecca recommends exploring the island’s attractions. The ancient Zanzibar has maintained all of its old world charms, and as you tour its capital, Stone Town, you will be able to see evidence of a romantic bygone era of Omani royalty, Sultans, and princesses. Shop in the old bazaars just like them and view with awe the old buildings like The Sultan's Palace, House of Wonders, Tippu Tip House, Forodhani Gardens, Anglican Church and many more. There are also other surprises for you on your Tanzanian island holiday as you explore the conservation areas on and around it. The Jozani Forest is home to the rare Kirk's colobus monkey and a variety of reserve flora endemic to Zanzibar. Here you can also view insects, reptiles and amphibians. Go scuba diving and snorkeling on your outdoor trip in the underwater ocean reserves of Zanzibar, and you can view a silent, gorgeous realm of multi-hued coral and a seemingly unending diversity of reef life. You could also go fishing in the various deep-water designated sites off the East African coastline under the guidance of an experienced skipper. Visit the spice farmlands for an enjoyable introduction to the seasonings in the raw, unprocessed form. Your expert guide will explain to you their many medicinal properties and their uses in spiritual rituals. Also, view unfamiliar fruits like spiky durian, bungo, shoki-shoki and baobab fruit to name a few.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
