Zanzibar is a beautiful island located in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Tanzania that affords an enchanting abode for a barefoot holiday. Its distinct beaches and surrounding villages have a memorable charm while the gorgeous oceanic azure takes your breath away. Sited in Kiwengwa is the Mchanga Beach Resort. A modest hotel with landscaped tropical vegetation ablaze with the riot of flowers, makuti thatched roofs and sandy pathways leading to the rooms, restaurant, swimming pool and spa. The resort is ideal for the no-frills AfricanMecca traveler looking for comfortable, affordable accommodation in the eastern sector of Zanzibar (places to stay). Spend time on the pearly sands under the shade of palm trees and revel in the glorious aquatic vistas spread before you. This hotel has just 10 rooms for their guests in five specifications. Thatched with makuti leaves, the rooms have white walls and mosquito netting covered beds. Of the six rooms with double beds, the Second Line Double Room and the Prime Line Double Room both offer views of the ocean and can sleep two guests each. You could also opt for the Standard Double Room, two Twin Rooms and two Family Rooms. Groups of up to four guests can stay in the Family Room while the others are just enough for two guests. The rooms are air-conditioned and also have a counter top, closet and safe deposit boxes for your use. A ceiling fan ventilates the room that also includes tea and coffee making supplies and a minibar.
Mchanga’s restaurant is an airy, circular structure where you can enjoy wholesome meals on your seaside trip while enjoying the feel of the sand tickling your toes underfoot. Later, enjoy a siesta on the beachfront or sunbathe beside the pool. You could also spend your days wandering the narrow streets of the island's capital, Stone Town. This ancient, merchant town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that awes you with the imposing historical relics. View the Beit Al Sahel, Beit Al Ajaib also called the House of Wonders, Anglican Church, Forodhani Gardens, Tippu Tip House and many more. Also, go shopping in the tiny stores where you could buy fresh spices, colorful Swahili textiles with unique patterns, bead jewelry and handcrafted curios. If you enjoy throwing a cast or even if you have never tried it before, there are several deep-sea fishing sites off the island where you could catch many varieties of billfish, marlins, swordfish to sailfish. Take a tour of the Jozani Forest and you can watch the rare red colobus monkey, a native primate of Zanzibar. Next, make your way to the spice farmlands where you can learn about its uses and also special harvesting skills. Your AfricanMecca guide will explain to you how the spices can be used to color fabrics and their importance in religious ceremonies. The many fruits, endemic to Zanzibar will also fascinate you. Look for strange fruits like durian, bungo, shoki-shoki and many others. You must also explore the underwater coral gardens off the coast of East Africa on your dream vacation. Go diving and snorkeling to view the amazing diversity of coral that is home to an equally stunning variety of reef creatures.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
