DIAMONDS MAPENZI BEACH CLUB IN ZANZIBAR
Pearly white sand beaches and the breathtaking azure waters of the Indian Ocean set against swaying palm trees and bougainvillea form the location for the Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Club (formerly branded as Sandies Mapenzi Beach Club). A modest budget accommodation, it offers you comfortable living spaces that you can use as a base while exploring the ancient island settlement of Zanzibar on your seashore vacation in East Africa. Sited on Kiwengwa Beach, you can spend time swimming in the crystal clear waters of the ocean, sunbathing underneath swaying coconut trees leaves or walking on the shoreline fringes of the ocean. Or you could head out to the swimming pool and lounge beside it with cool cocktails in hand during languid afternoons in the warm tropical sunshine. The Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Club has a series of white-wall buildings and seaside villas housing 87 rooms with thatched roofs for your stay while holidaying in eastern Zanzibar. AfricanMecca lodgers can choose from three specifications: Superior Garden Rooms, Superior Rooms and Beach Villas, each offering the standard amenities typical of an economy establishment. While the 21 Superior Garden Rooms and 36 Superior Rooms are in block buildings amidst the gardens on lower and upper levels respectively, the 30 Beach Villas have immediate sandy access with superlative sea views. The rooms come air-conditioned and include a minibar, tea and coffee making supplies, in-room safe deposit box and an ensuite bathroom equipped with a shower and hairdryer. Enjoy hearty, adequate meals, buffet style at The View Restaurant. The hotel has three other restaurants located close to the beachfront that open for lunch and dinner i.e. Nakupenda Pizzeria, Ocean Reef Beach Grill and the a-la-carte Suli-Suli Restaurant. You can also visit their sheesha lounge, pool and beach bars – Hibiscus and Upepo, respectively.
During the day, you can discover the many attractions the old settlement has to offer. Head out to Stone Town, its capital, and you will be enchanted by the dukas (little stores) that line the labyrinth alleyways of the yesteryear bazaars. Just like they have for centuries, they offer intricately carved treasures, completely crafted by hand. Take them home as mementos of your unique tour of Africa or as gifts for loved ones. You will also adore viewing the old buildings, their architecture reminding you of the era when they were fashioned. Your expert AfricanMecca guide will direct you around the Sultan's Palace, House of Wonders, Anglican Church and many others. On your return to Diamonds Mapenzi Beach Club, stopover at the Jozani Forest for a primate viewing experience during your Zanzibar leisure day travels. Here you can see the inimitable red colobus monkey and also sykes’ too. If you would like to see what made Zanzibar the famous haven in its heyday, you must check out the spice and fruit plantations. Taste the harvested zings freshly picked off the trees and learn of the many garnering techniques and medicinal values too. You could also sample the distinct varieties of unusual fruit the island is well-known for. For a marine adventure, visit the ocean reserves of Mnemba Atoll and surrounding reefs at Kiwengwa, and revel in the incredible underworld sights of the many colored coral and reef fishes. Also, learn the names of the many fascinating marine life that inhabit the coral gardens and seagrasses, also called the oceanic rainforests. You could also add a fishing trip to your Zanzibar itinerary. There are many sites in the deeper waters where you can catch varied billfishes, from sailfish to three types of marlins and more.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
