KILEMAKYARO MOUNTAIN LODGE IN MOSHI NEAR KILIMANJARO
Built in 1909 by a German resident, the Kilemakyaro Mountain Lodge still maintains its colonial charm. Located on the outskirts of Moshi, on the Machame lowland slopes of Kilimanjaro at a height of 1134 meters above sea level, this comfort accommodation is chosen by travelers as their pre and post base layovers for their Mt Kilimanjaro trekking expedition. Originally a coffee farm, most of the estate is now owned by a private company that nurtures Arabica beans for the export market. The original colonial main structure has been restored to its former grace and now houses the office of the lodge. The Kilemakyaro Mountain Lodge is spread over well-maintained gardens with palm trees everywhere, in addition to other native flowering trees and shrubs. In this rich green undergrowth, you are likely to see many species of winged fauna and butterflies. The lodge houses AfricanMecca guests’ adventure vacationing in Tanzania in 23 amiable cottages set apart from each other with paved walkways leading from one chalet to another. Each raised cottage is round in shape with a thatched conical roof (rondavel style), and a little veranda with steps leading up to it. The cottage has a private entrance to two independent rooms. Each has chairs and a table set up in the veranda where you can sit and enjoy the fresh beauty of your surroundings with a hot cup of coffee or tea on your African mountain holiday. The cottages have twin beds with mosquito nets for shield, and wood-carved dressers for your vanity use. They also have seating arrangements in the rooms. The lodge estate grows its fruit and vegetables and even houses their own cattle to assure the use of the freshest organic ingredients for your meals. This local produce lends a local African flavor to the many dishes the Kilemakyaro chef prepares for you. Have your meals in the lodge’s restaurant located in the main building. The restaurant offers you a selection of zesty Tanzanian and international cuisine. You must also try the traditional “nyama choma” (grilled meat) barbecue on offer on select nights. The Bar, also in the main building, has a collection of local and imported wines, spirits, beer and other drinks for you to prize from. You can also have your drinks beside the swimming pool or enjoy a dip while taking in the breathtaking views of the Mount Kilimanjaro in all its snow-capped splendor. The native name of Kilimanjaro is “Kilemakyaro” or “Impossible Voyage” in the Chagga language. Your Mount Kilimanjaro strenuous hike will take you 7 to 9 days of trekking 5-8 hours a day. But today, thanks to the AfricanMecca mountaineering team’s expertise and guided efforts you can get from the well-experienced and trained guides and crew, you can attempt this demanding expedition with success with appropriate ascent strategies in place. AfricanMecca provides custom and private guided trek for all the routes to the summit of Kili. We will also make sure you have the necessary equipment, and all other gear you will need to complete your trek safely, and that you enjoy every moment of this exhilarating and challenging experience of your Tanzania summit tour. AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
