GUIDE ON KIRURUMU MANYARA LODGE IN TANZANIA
Kirurumu Manyara Lodge is a friendly and unpretentious tented eco-lodge set high on the rim of the Great African Rift Valley escarpment, on the main route from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater and just 20 minutes from the entrance to Lake Manyara National Park. It provides a simple, cost-conscious base for your tour of Northern Tanzania with AfricanMecca. It is closely linked to the culturally diverse market town of Mto wa Mbu, a fascinating place to visit on your Manyara trip. The views are breathtaking in every direction. Behind the lodge at a distance, the wooded Ngorongoro Highlands rise protectively, providing homes for more than 44 species of birds of prey. In front, fantastic ground water woodlands lead to the valley plains and the silvery sheen of the shallow soda lake that covers up to two thirds of the 127 square miles (330 sq km) park area in the wet season. Pods of hippopotamus wallow in rivers running from the base of the escarpment to the lake, while troupes of monkeys and baboons swing through the forest canopy, or amble along the dirt roads, unconcerned by the presence of eager tourists on vacation in Africa. There is an amazing population of resident and migratory birds. Thousands of Greater and Lesser flamingos, pelicans, storks and other wading birds, all thrive in the strongly alkaline waters so rich in algae, crustaceans and frogs.
Accommodation At Kirurumu Manyara Lodge27 standard tented rooms with thatched roofs provide basic convenience for travelers in Africa. There are also 2 more distant honeymoon suites and 2 stone and canvas family cottages in two stories (read more on other stay options in Manyara). Each room is clean, cool and airy, pleasantly furnished with comfortable beds sporting cheerful Maasai blankets and circular woven mats. There is a totally en-suite bathroom with both hot and cold running water, shower, flush toilet and wash basins, a small sitting area, writing desk, and a large verandah with table and easy chairs. Most of the verandahs have unrestricted views across the woodlands to the valley, which are best from the cliff edge, but the views from the central bar, lounge and dining complex are to die for. All Kirurumu Manyara Lodge rooms have 24-hour electricity and battery charging facilities but no hair dryers. Sandy paths border the tents and stone walks join in all the way to the central areas. The footprint of this lodge on the local ecology has been minimized with the result that plenty of birds and small mammals, including hyrax and dik-diks that are present in Kirurumu 13-acre grounds. Maasai tribesmen are on guard at night to escort you to and from your rooms, in case larger wildlife visitors cause anxiety. The Tanzanian safari atmosphere is very noticeable with AfricanMecca, but, in general, the keynote of Kirurumu Manyara Lodge is comfortable relaxation with simplicity well done.
Safari At Kirurumu Manyara LodgeA Kirurumu Manyara Lodge safari offers half-day special purpose treks, hikes, and cultural tour excursions. You could opt for an ethno-botanic guided walk, visiting the nearby town to meet members of several different tribes as well as identifying such life-sustaining trees as the topsy-turvy giant baobab and the ghostly quinine or yellow fever trees which spring up in the dry to drown in the wet, leaving their skeletons to add to the surreal ambience and provide look-out posts for avian scavengers. With AfricanMecca, you can take a full day or half day Manyara tour in comfortable, purpose-built 4x4 people-carriers with open tops for ease of photography, on-board refreshments, and two-way radio communication with other guides to optionally share, track and locate unique happenings of interest. These tracking of fauna trails and echo intelligence are most popular with visitors on holiday in Tanzania. Within the Lake Manyara National Park, you may head for the central lake with its pink fringe of stilt-legged flamingos. In the dry season, the lake shrinks to create shimmering salt flats traversed by many species of antelopes, giraffes, zebra, warthogs and vast herds of elephant. Snakes may be seen crawling towards the water’s edge to feast on frogs, or you may watch slow-moving monitor lizards twining their long, thick, yellow and black banded tails in a loving embrace. Enjoy an African tour with a difference in this small and intimate setting, savoring each aquatic and terrestrial sighting in depth and at leisure in a way not possible in parks of more epic proportions.
Dining At Kirurumu Manyara LodgeThe central complex at Kirurumu Manyara Lodge comprises of a well-stocked bar with fantastic views, a comfortable and convivial lounge, and a large, open sided dining room with extensive sun deck and waiter service. Food, locally sourced wherever possible, is fresh, filling and well-prepared. Early morning tea or coffee, fragrant and revitalizing, is a prelude to an early morning game drive to the valley floor, surprising game at its most active. Nocturnal creatures are returning home, and diurnal animals are stirring in search of breakfast. You will have your full breakfast on your return in the dining area or prior to your morning activity, unless you have elected to take a packed lunch on a full day tour of Manyara with AfricanMecca, which can be accomplished in a few hours, even visiting the hot springs in the far south of the national park. Choose from cold fruit and cheese or hot oatmeal, toast or waffles and cooked eggs. Lunch is presented as a selection of hot and cold dishes, salads, meat, poultry, fish, and vegetarian specialties. For those checking in after lunch, set off for an afternoon game drive, this time to catch the crepuscular, or twilight stalkers, which may include leopard, serval and hyena setting out to find their supper. Sundowners may be taken in the bush, around an African safari campfire, or in the bar, before a silver service dinner in the thatched restaurant.

Loretta and I had a great time on our honeymoon. We both also really enjoyed our time in the Serengeti. We were able to witness the wildebeest migration and saw literally over 1 or 2 million animals trekking across the plains of the Serengeti.
Loretta and Danny Haag - California, United States
I booked my safari holiday through AfricanMecca. They were the most helpful company I have ever dealt with and I work within the travel industry. I had the most amazing time. The holiday went as clockwork with no hitches anywhere.

AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
Cyril Christo & Marie Wilkinson, Conservation Photographers, Authors & Wildlife Documentary Producers - USA
We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
