GUIDE ON SUNBIRD LODGE IN KENYA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Sunbird Lodge

Sunbird Lodge is an affordable option for your modest travel in Kenya. Located on 55 acres, the lodge overlooks the striking Lake Elementaita (view map) – a RAMSAR and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 14 cottages and 2 suites are situated on a hillside along the lake, so you enjoy incredible views during your stay. Ten of the cottages feature king and single beds and four cottages have two-twin beds -- perfect as a family room with children. In-room safes mosquito netting, shower, hairdryer, hammock and private verandas are all part of your cottage. Inside your cottage, you find peaceful ambience of clean white accents, indirect and natural lighting and touches of ethnic colored curtains and decor that provide you with a peaceful setting to unwind after your high-pace East African safari excursions. We recommend that AfricanMecca guests with limited mobility choose an upper cottage that is close to reception, as the lower cottages require climbing over 100 stairs. Another difference between the cottages is that the upper cottages have the best views, and lower cottages are quieter and offer more privacy. Should you prefer additional amenities at Sunbird Lodge, choose one of the suites, featuring sitting area with fireplace, large veranda, whirlpool and twice the space of the cottages. No matter what type of guest accommodation you choose, you are sure to have an adventurous tour of Lake Elementaita with easy access to the surrounding wildernesses.

As morning light filters into your cottage, you awaken to incredible views of Lake Elementaita. In the distance, you see some of the 450 bird species take flight over the lake in their early-day search for food. After you freshen up, meet your guide for an exploratory morning game drive to the neighboring Lake Nakuru National Park, a beautiful wilderness area with a higher number of terrestrial wildlife compared to Elementaita. The park is well-known for black rhinos and Rothschild giraffes, an endangered species. Buffalos, klipspringers, zebras, elands, gazelles, dik-diks, waterbucks and other grazing herbivores are quite visible during the game drives, but you may also catch sight of black-backed jackals, caracals, elusive leopards, lazed lions, crafty hyenas and other hunting predators. Should you be interested in a birding holiday in Kenya with AfricanMecca, Lake Elementaita will fulfil all your twitcher aspirations. The lake is visited by thousands of birds annually, including thousands of great white pelicans and greater and lesser flamingos. Night herons, Cape teal, black-necked grebe and other feathered creatures have also been sighted at the lake. After optionally returning to the lodge in the afternoon for lunch, you may later on head out on your guided nature walk around the lake or opt for a mid-afternoon boating activity at the nearby Lake Naivasha. For a more relaxed experience, you may simply prefer to laze in a hammock on your veranda and later on take a dip in the pool to cool-off. Lake Elementaita offers superb sunset views that are best enjoyed with a cocktail. Other activities for your dream vacation around Lake Elementaita are horseback riding in Naivasha, flower farm visits or full day trips to nearby archaeological sites at Hells Gate National Park and much more.
