GUIDE ON SLEEPING WARRIOR LODGE AND CAMP IN KENYA
The awesome beauty of the Soysambu Conservancy by Lake Elementaita with its thousands of flamingos and myriad other bird and animal species, lie before you. Then are the vistas that await you when you spend your unforgettable AfricanMecca vacation in Kenya at the Sleeping Warrior Camp. This modest accommodation is established, owned and run by Jacqueline and Jean-Francois Damonon, and includes a lodge and camp located at different sites within the Soysambu Conservancy. Eco-conscious travelers will be delighted to know that both accommodations operate on firm eco-friendly principles. Cedar poles that were previously used as fences on the ranch have been used to fashion most of the furniture. The tents have roofs of thatched hay crafted by the local people. Donkeys transport the Leleshwa wood that is used to heat water and local women collect this naturally fallen wood without incurring damage to the trees. Solar electricity powers the camp and the lodge but while you can charge your electronics in your room, using hair dryers is not possible. The Sleeping Warrior Eco Lodge is spread over the Mawe Mbili Hill, which means “Two Stones” in Kiswahili. Almost entirely constructed using stones, the lodge has a reception area that sits at the very top of the hill. The central lounge and dining areas are also located at this level and offer you stunning views of the landscape below you. The Warrior Bar is another pleasant location to spend time with cocktails, but you could also have them beside the pool where you can spend a laze afternoon during your Soysambu tour at Lake Elementaita. Pathways lay in the lush gardens with acacia trees lead to 10 rooms, made of stone walls and vaulted thatched roof. Each room has one double or twin beds with mosquito netting. But if you are family travelling in Africa with young kids, you can request for an added bed or a cot that comes with its own net. Your room extends to the deck with light furniture where you can relax and absorb in the vistas.
The Sleeping Warrior Tented Camp is another location for a tranquil Elementaita trip in East Africa. Perched on a rocky outcrop, the camp is sheltered by Leleshwa trees. The reception, lounge and bar are located in the main house that faces a watering hole. Since many animals arrive to drink in the mornings and evenings, you can just sit back and watch them. Choose from one of the 4 tented rooms that have thatched roofs, canvas walls, netted windows with en-suite bathrooms for your stay. The camp also offers a spacious stone guesthouse that has a lounge room that can be adapted into a twin room. Also, available is a triple-bed room in the Lakeview stone built cottage with a forward-facing canvas. If you are looking for a romantic night under the stars, you can opt for the Eagle’s Nest settled on a stony hill. It has a garden bath, panoramic deck and roll-out star bed underneath the African sky (read more on where else to stay in Lake Elementaita). At both accommodations, your meals will be served on a set menu but if you have any specifications for meals the kids or yourself during your Soysambu holiday at Lake Elementaita, please put in your requests via your AfricanMecca safari planner prior to arrival. The lodge also has vegetarian options, and while you can have your meals in the dining area, you also have the option of requesting for private bush meals at supplementary cost. Tea and coffee making supplies along with single bottled drinking water are placed in your room, but you can also order hot tea and coffee at the bar too.
The Sleeping Warrior Camp and Lodge are ideal for a personalized family vacation in Kenya. They have a collection of activities especially for children and there is a heated pool at the lodge that is suited for children. Guests staying at the camp are free to use the pool also. Maasai guides organize two-hour long sessions for kids, but you can adjust the timings to your child's preference. Kids can learn how to make bows and arrows, Maasai dances, building mini Manyattas, beadwork, starting fires the Maasai way and so much more. Storytelling time excites children the most. Accompanied by your guide, you can go on walks in the bush to the lake to view the many flamingos and pelicans. As you walk through the grasslands around the lake, you might spot zebras, elands, gazelles and impalas grazing. The conservancy is home to more than 450 species of birds, and armed with your list and the sharp eyes of your guide, you are sure to spot many of them. AfricanMecca Safaris can also arrange game drives for you at Soysambu Conservancy. As you pass through the acacia forests, you will have the opportunity to see Rothschild giraffes munching on acacia leaves or the elusive leopard sprawled on a low-tree branch. We recommend that you supplement your game driving experience to include Lake Nakuru National Park for maximal wildlife experiences. If trees and plants fascinate you, you can take a botanical walk where your guide will explain to you the many medicinal and animal dietary properties of the flora you can see, touch and smell. Choose The Sleeping Warrior Camp in Soysambu for a memorable safari trip to Lake Elementaita.
