GUIDE ON LAKE ELEMENTAITA LODGE IN KENYA
When you visit Lake Elementaita in the Great Rift Valley with AfricanMecca, the first impression you have is of profound serenity and the singing of the birds only adds to the ambience of harmony. The lake area sees very few visitors on your safari vacation in magical Kenya as most of the lake is privately owned. This comfortable lodge is ideal for the budget conscious traveler, and having been originally built in 1916 as the home of Lord Galbraith Cole, it minimally retains adequate quaint charm of the colonial era. It is laid out in 100 acres of beautifully arranged gardens with paved walkways and bougainvillea adding a riot of color to the green of the grass and trees. Guests traveling in East Africa are housed in country-style, red brick cottages with some of them facing the lake. The lodge has 33 rooms with a fireplace with either twin or double beds. Insect netting provides protection from bugs and a little seating arrangement with a flat screen TV adds to the comfort of the room. Every room can accommodate an extra bed or a crib for a child and has a little dresser for your use. The attached bathroom has a satisfactory bathtub the basic amenities typical of a value accommodation and hot water for your showers. The cottages also have a little patio where you can lounge and revel in the views over the lake or the gardens.
The Jacaranda Lake Elementaita Lodge has an in-house restaurant, Lord Cole, where your meals are served buffet style. You can also order off their menu and they serve a minimal range of African, global and barbecued dishes. Fresh fruit and salad are enjoyable additions to your meals that are cooked with ingredients that have been sourced from surrounding farms. If you prefer, you can have your meals al fresco on the restaurant veranda with sweeping vistas of the lake with varied birds flying over it. You can spend your early mornings at the hot springs of Lake Elementaita. Bird watchers will welcome the opportunity of spotting birds during their avian holiday in central Kenya like the yellow-billed stork and pied kingfisher as they fish at varied times. You can also take walks to the lake's shore in the company of your guide to view avian-life like the flamingos, pelicans and herons. Lake Elementaita has more than 450 species of birds and many rare water birds like the great egrets, maccoa duck and great crested grebe can be found here. The lake is surrounded by rich grasses and you are likely to see zebras, elands, gazelles, buffaloes, waterbucks, dik diks and many other ungulates (read more on when is the best time to visit Lake Elementaita). Some guests use the Jacaranda Lake Elementaita Lodge as a base to visit the neighboring Lake Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha or to visit the scenic Menengai Crater. AfricanMecca Safaris can organize game viewing trips especially on your tour of Lake Elementaita at the nearby park where you may spot the very elusive leopard and black rhinos or the Rothschild giraffe, another rare, imposing creature.
