Kendwa Rocks Bungalows and Beach Bandas - Zanzibar, Kendwa Rocks

In 1995, Kendwa Village was one of the most remote villages on the island of Unguja. The beach underneath was untouched, the rocks covered with thick bushes. There was no road, no water, no electricity; nothing but complete peace. Kendwa Rocks, formerly called "Kendwa Maweni", started as campsite with four Palm leaf bandas, Swahili for small hut, and a modest restaurant.
All guests and provisions, including water and food came via boat from Nungwi located on the Northern part of Zanzibar Island. Slowly, Kendwa has made significant improvements: a rural access road has been created, local villages are now employed, visitors seem to love the privacy and non-commercialization of the area so more guests but in small numbers and the area has made a name for itself. The accommodation focuses on attracting guests who just want to relax, enjoy the beach while keeping their vacationing costs within hand.
