EMERSON SPICE IN STONE TOWN ZANZIBAR
Old world charm that is splendidly intertwined with modern-day amenities is what you find at Emerson Spice, a deluxe accommodation in Zanzibar’s Stone Town (read more on where to stay). The hotel is a series creation of the late Emerson Skeens, an American, who took a personal interest in restoring some of the island’s historical structures with a true flair for preservation. Our vacationing guests will find the experience truly and utterly remarkable and magnificent. Emerson Spice is more of a bed and breakfast boutique hotel, offering 11 individually designed rooms in the heart of Stone Town. Beyond the aesthetic appeal, the hotel is within a short walk of the diverse local tourist attractions. The rooms offer guests a comfy accommodation, including air conditioning, mosquito netting, fan and small refrigerator. But the modern-day influences stop there. Emerson had managed to infuse each room with traditional and exotic design elements that immerse you in a yesteryear experience. Belle, Violetta, Semele, Camille and Desdemona are double rooms that feature one queen bed, en-suite bathroom open to the sleeping area and private balcony. The hotel offers two twin rooms, one of which, Lamour Toujours Lamour, features a private balcony, additional outside bath and two queen beds. Named for Katherine Hepburn, the Kate room features a private verandah with garden, one queen bed, en-suite bathroom and outside bath on a second balcony. Emerson Spice is also a great family-friendly holiday accommodation. Aida is a two-floor room with enclosed en-suite bathroom and sleeping areas on the first level and loft area. For solo travelers in East Africa’s island paradise of Zanzibar or those who prefer lower cost rooms, Emerson Spice features two smaller rooms – Turandot and Siti with a Juliet’s balconies, one queen bed and en-suite bathroom.
The colorful and diverse Tanzanian history of Zanzibar is most prominent in Stone Town, the oldest section of the town. With so many sites to see and stories to hear, you may feel overwhelmed by your options. Therefore, we recommend a guided walking tour of the Stone Town’s cultural and historical treasures. Your private guide not only ensures your well-being and navigation through the winding alleys of Stone Town, but also enlightens you about history, commerce, culture, lifestyle and many other aspects. The excursion includes the town’s most desired sites, such as the old Indian Dispensary, House of Wonders, Peace Memorial Museum, Anglican Church, Sultan’s Palace Museum, Old Arab Fort and much more. Additionally, your guide describes many interesting events, such as film and music festivals, great places to shop, preferred restaurants and much more. Your guide may even recommend some tasty nibbles that are found in the street market. Spend your afternoon walking amongst aromatic flora during a Spice excursion at a local farm where the variety of herbs, seasonings and fruits is almost beyond imagination. You may wish to journey into the lush Jozani Forest for a bush walk safari. The woodland habitats are home to tiny creatures, including threatened red colobus monkeys. Later in the day, the setting sun creates a surreal ambience for your dream-like trip to the island of Zanzibar. Golden light dances on the Indian Ocean as traditional dhows gracefully sail along the surface. Take in the experience with juice cocktails or fresh coconut drink at the Forodhani Gardens and later walk to Emerson Spice rooftop tea house before a dinner of lobster with green papaya salad, passion fruit ceviche, coconut chili kingfish, plum tarts and many other gastronomical sensations. These are just the some of the distinct experiences in Zanzibar with AfricanMecca.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
