DHOW INN IN ZANZIBAR
The little fishing village of Paje and its namesake beach is a quaint, energetic location on the southeast coast of Zanzibar (where else to stay). One of the popular coastal vacation destinations in Eastern Africa, its pristine white sands and the stunning turquoise of the Indian Ocean, and lush, verdant tropical vegetation are simply breathtaking. In this setting is the comfy Dhow Inn, a value accommodation with stark white structures that reflects the peaceful ambience and thatched roofs that remind you of the island setting you are in. Relax beside the free-form swimming pool or sunbathe on the warm sands of the seashore watching the local women harvest seaweed from the shallows. You could also play a game of pool, or table tennis or get an unpretentious massage. The Dhow Inn has 28 rooms arranged around the pool in two categories. You can stay in the 24 Standard Rooms with your traveling partner while groups of 3 AfricanMecca guests can opt for the more spacious 4 Superior Rooms. The air-conditioned rooms have either double or twin beds, and each comes with a patio with a little seating arrangement. There is also a ceiling fan that circulates air, safety deposit box, minibar with complimentary welcome drinks, and chargeable telephone in the room for your use. The ensuite bathrooms come with essential toiletries, and you can request for a hair dryer at the reception. Dine in one of the Dhow Inn's three restaurants, one of which is beside the pool. You will be served homely, filling meals accompanied with fresh produce sourced from the island. Order drinks at the bar located in the lounge area. While you could spend your entire holiday reveling in the beauty of the triangular sails floating on the ocean by Dhow Inn, you must also explore the many attractions that the island is famous for. Stone Town, a distinct UNESCO World Heritage site is the capital of Zanzibar and the cultural hub. Enjoy a bargaining stint in the ancient bazaars as you buy Tanzanian kitenges and Swahili kangas, ceramic bead jewelry, spices, handcrafted curios and so much more. Also, view with awe the many historical and architectural relics that still stand here. Trip out to the Jozani Forest Reserve to view a rare primate in its natural habitat, the red colobus monkey. The reserve also hosts many distinct flora, amphibians, butterflies and other creatures. The spice and fruit gardens of Zanzibar are another must-visit while on your tour. Here, you can learn about the unique uses and harvesting techniques of the spices you have in your kitchen back home. Look for cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, anise, ginger and turmeric, among others. The serene waters of the Indian Ocean conceal many aquatic treasures that you can discover by going reef diving and marine reserve snorkeling. There are seemingly myriad varieties of coral like brain, convoluted, staghorn and many more hosting diverse, colorful reef denizens like sea anemones, starfish, sea urchins, sea horses, wrasses, dolphins, Spanish dancers and various reef fishes like angel, lion, zebra, to name a scarce few. Fishing is yet another exciting activity you can enjoy here in Zanzibar. Excursioning out to the diverse deep-water sites under the supervision of an expertly assigned AfricanMecca skipper may chance an encounter with yellow-fin tuna, wahoo, swordfish, trevally, dorado, sailfish and countless others.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.

When beach vacationing at Dhow Inn in Zanzibar, we recommend experiencing some of the surrounding Zanzibar Island attractions and tour activities after your Northern Tanzania safari to Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti.
You may optionally extend out to offbeat parks in Southern and Western Tanzania such as Selous, Ruaha or Katavi ending with a chimpanzee trekking safari at Gombe or Mahale by the relaxing Lake Tanganyika.
