Sited on a coral incline that ends on a cliff beside the Indian Ocean, the Sunshine Marine Lodge is an excellent value accommodation for holidaying guests on the ancient, historic island of Zanzibar.Located in the northeast Matemwe area of the island, its isolation from other hotels and lodges lends a serene ambience and transports you into an era of modest village living. Tropical gardens, thatched roofs and mud walls in warm earthen tones gives the lodge a very pastoral East African look while its location close to the lesser known Muyuni Beach offers lots of opportunities for relaxed swims in the stunning turquoise blue of the ocean. The lodge boasts of three swimming pools, one of them in front of the ocean and also a wooden pier leading out into the sea. AfricanMecca lodgers will be staying in one of their 23 rooms for the duration of your trip. These comfortable rooms are housed in seven dual-story structures, and you can choose from four different specifications such as the 15 Sunshine Suites, 4 Blue Wave Suites, 2 Blue Breeze Suites and 2 Panorama Suites. All of the rooms offer some views of the ocean; and are cooled by the island breeze, ceiling fan, standing fan and another on your nightstand. They are furnished with a queen-sized bed but are spacious enough to accommodate a third bed. A stone baraza seating arrangement covered with throw pillows adds to subtle comforts of the room.
The lodge serves flavorsome, wholesome meals in their restaurant cum lounge that also serves drinks at its ngalawa-styled bar. You can spend time here reading from their array of books or try your hand at a board game. The day beds under parasols beside the pools are tranquil spots for siestas. At Sunshine Marine Lodge, you could also hone your scuba diving skills in one of the pools before you make your way out to the Mnemba Atoll close by. This gorgeous marine world abounds with coral gardens that you must explore by way of diving and snorkeling expeditions on your vacation. There are many other exciting attractions in Zanzibar that you must view during your travels on the island. Its capital Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Tanzania, is famous for many architectural, historical and cultural wonders, and each has a different tale to tell about the passionate olden times of the island. Wander through its narrow streets and you can shop for Swahili textiles, beaded jewelry, artifacts and spices much like the Omani royals of yore. If you would like to see the seasonings you use in your kitchen every day, growing in their natural form, you must tour the spice and fruit farms on the island with AfricanMecca. Here, you will also learn about the medicines and fabric dyes that can be made from them. You can view the fruits of Zanzibar like shoki-shoki, durian, bungo and many more. Excursion out to the Jozani Forest Reserve to view a rare primate, the red colobus monkey, in its natural habitat. Complete your tour with an angling foray at one of the many designated fishing sites off the coast of Zanzibar.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.

Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
