Spread on an incline that ends on a ledge overlooking the gorgeous powder white Michamwi seaside is the Ras Michamvi Beach Resort. Located on the east coast of Zanzibar (where else to stay), this economy accommodation features lush tropical gardens separated by wooden walkways. Makuti thatch roofs add to simple, rustic appeal of this hotel that has an open, agreeable lounge. Spend time on your beachfront escapade reading from the books set out while enjoying the cool breezes wafting up from the shimmering Indian Ocean spread before you. You could also lounge beside the swimming pool in between lazy dips or revel in an uncomplicated massage session at the resort’s spa. Ras Michamvi has four bungalows with 15 rooms in total, three of which house four rooms each while the fourth houses three rooms. You can choose from the eight Ocean View Rooms or the seven Garden View Rooms for your non-frill seashore vacation. Wooden rafters and simple Zanzibari furniture add to the basic comfort while Swahili drapes enliven the stark simplicity. Mosquito netting covers the king sized bed or twin beds. Groups of three AfricanMecca boarders can opt for the larger rooms with triple beds. You will also have a patio with a quaint wooden railing which is a good spot for relaxing, sipping drinks and enjoying the serenity of your surroundings in privacy. Each of the rooms is air-conditioned and includes a ceiling fan for added comfort. Use the electronic safe to store valuables or choose drinks from the mini-fridge. The ensuite bathroom includes a walk-in shower and hairdryer for your use. The Ras Michamwi Beach Resort offers multi-cuisine meals in their cliffside restaurant cooled by makuti thatch and the ocean zephyrs. Breakfast is continental while lunches and dinners are wholesome meals that include Swahili, seafood and vegetarian selections. You can also order drinks while lounging at the pool bar. The natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the island old city of Zanzibar are almost unparalleled. From Ras Michamvi Beach Resort, visit the heart of Zanzibar. Tour with your AfricanMecca guide along the narrow alleyways of its capital, Stone Town, and you will come across distinct structural wonders that stand in silent witness to its flamboyant past. View the Anglican Church, Beit Al Sahel, Beit Al Ajaib, Tippu Tip House, Forodhani Gardens and many more. You can also go shopping for souvenirs in the tiny traditional stores. Touring the spice and fruit plantations will allow you to appreciate the allure of the island to ancient travelers and rulers. The many spices that grow here like ginger, cardamom, anise, cinnamon, cloves and turmeric among others have many medicinal uses aside from flavoring food. You will also enjoy viewing the many unusual luscious fruits endemic to the island. Explore the Jozani Forest to come face to face with the red colobus monkey, a fascinating creature that almost became extinct. This conservation area is also home to some rare plants and trees. Hidden beneath the calm waters of the ocean is an ethereal world where many reef dwellers with their exciting forms and colors live among the multi-hues coral. Go on a snorkeling trip at Chumbe and scuba diving at Mnemba to see them. You can also add a fishing trip to your aquatic holiday. The East African waters around this popular Tanzanian island have many designated deep-water sites where you can try snagging some of the stalwarts of the vast Indian Ocean.

The Zanzibar Stone Town tour guide was superlative. He was outstanding and gave us undivided attention. We felt that was great value and to be escorted round the market place and slave stations was like walking in a living museum.

We have returned from our African adventure and would like to thank you very much for your part in making this such a wonderful experience. We were lucky enough to time the Great Migration from the Serengeti, which was amazing.
Denise Paterson - Belmont, Australia
Ras Nungwi was a beautiful property, the pristine white beach not more than forty feet from our lovely room, the Indian Ocean sublime. Raza, it was the vacation of a lifetime, again, thanks so much.
