The Sultan Sands Island Resort, a value seaside holiday accommodation, is sited beside the beautiful sands of Kiwengwa in the east of Zanzibar. The incredible vistas of the turquoise of the Indian Ocean spread before you as you spend time on the delicate white beach softly caressed by the waves. The hotel has a pleasing decor that combines elements of Arabic and Swahili architecture with white walls, archways and filigree windows. You can spend time beside the free-form swimming pool or walk onto the beachfront for a dip in the ocean. Since the Sultan Sands Island Resort and Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa are sister establishments, you will also have access to the Oasis Spa at the adjacent Bluebay. The hotel offers AfricanMecca barefoot vacationers 76 rooms in two specifications for their stay. Choose from the Pwani Rooms or the Bahari Rooms. The Pwani Rooms are roundish villas located on raised grounds offering views of the gardens facing the ocean. The Bahari Rooms are sited on the beach, a stone throw away from the sea. These rooms have a roomy patio with a shared plunge pool. All rooms come with air conditioning and have ceiling fans for added cooling. They are furnished with either a large double or two queen-sized beds with mosquito nets. The Pwani Rooms also have an added sofa bed. Other amenities include a flat-screen TV and safety deposit box. You can also choose drinks from the in-room minibar.

Dine at the different restaurants and bars that serve you a selection of cuisines, both Zanzibari and global. There are the Mwambao Restaurant by the poolside and the Kivuli Bar & Restaurant where you can enjoy meals on the beach with the sand sinking under your feet. Order cool drinks at the Mawimbi Bar and warm beverages at the Casablanca Lounge. The lounge serves as an evening events venue for in-house guests. Zanzibar Island has much to offer travelers, and from Sultan Sands Island Resort, you can spend time on culturally enriching forays of discovery or viewing the land and sea reserves it is famous for. Tour Stone Town, and you will be able to view many timeworn imposing structures that tell tales of the island's impulsive past. Your AfricanMecca guide will accompany you to see the Forodhani Gardens, Anglican Church, House of Wonders, Sultan's Palace and many more. You can also shop in the old bazaars and enjoy the mandatory haggling experience. Include a trip to the renowned fruit and spice farms to view the zests growing in their unprocessed form. You can also view many distinct fruits endemic to this Tanzanian island. Excursion out to the Jozani Forest Reserve to watch a rare primate, red colobus monkey, in its natural surroundings. Your guide will explain that they were nearing endangerment in this part of Eastern Africa, but thanks to conservation efforts, they now number over 2000. Go scuba diving and snorkeling in the underwater marine reserves off the coast or at Mnemba Atoll or enjoy an afternoon of angling at the select fish sites around the island.
