Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Azura Selous

If you want your luxury African safari to reflect the opulence of the long-gone Colonial era, you can do no better than to spend time at Azura Selous (formerly know as Amara Selous) in northern Selous Game Reserve - southern Tanzania. You are promised superlative comfort and lavish living whilst you enjoy a slow and self-indulgent tour of Selous, one of the world’s last remaining sanctuaries for hundreds of thousands of wild animals, many of which are fast disappearing from more accessible wilderness areas. Whilst many AfricanMecca guests on tour in Tanzania prefer an unpretentious wilderness experience close to nature and ecologically restrained, still for some intrepid adventurers, African travel is all about a return to a bygone era with the ultimate in top tier luxurious accoutrements and personal service. In order to achieve this, it is necessary to form strong cooperative and mutually beneficial links with local communities, by investment in local infrastructure, providing employment and promoting local health and educational projects. An Azura Selous safari does this whilst providing extravagant accommodation in the heart of the wilderness expanse. It is a dream to be made true for incredibly romantic African safari honeymoons or unforgettable family safari holidays in Tanzania. The immediate area is a paradise for bird-lovers, with over 350 species to enjoy in an overwhelming display of teeming wildlife, personally experienced by AfricanMecca. From mighty herds of elephant and gangs of lions stalking wildebeests to pods of hippopotamus, obstinacies of buffalo and a crash of rhinoceros, you will find them all here.

Accommodation At Azura Selous

Stunningly situated on the banks of the fast-running Great Ruaha River, which flows west into the inland from the mighty east Rufiji River with its beautiful oxbow lakes, Azura Selous consists of 12 extensive but discreetly isolated tented suites, each with 40 square meters of exterior decking featuring outdoor showers, individual plunge pools, sun beds with remarkable river views (read more on where else to stay in Selous). Internally, 90 square meters of generous living space is divided into an extravagant bathroom with shower, a bedroom with air conditioning and super-king size beds, and a working or lounging area with desk and easy chairs overlooking a river view. Chandeliers and richly hued leather furniture are standard features at Azura Selous. Personal service is assured at all times with your personal butler to ensure that everything is organized to make your Tanzanian vacation with AfricanMecca a resounding success. Special packages such as in-room massages will be arranged with pleasure. Your enjoyment of supreme self-indulgence is the ultimate aim. Set at different levels on an elevation, there is a good size swimming pool with mighty river views surrounded by decking and sun loungers, a sumptuous lounge providing a vantage point from which to view surrounding splendors of nature, to relax to the sound of tumbling waters through the passing river rapids, or to peruse literature about travel in Africa in a past world and time that is being deliberately recreated for your enjoyment at Amara. Children over 6 years of age are very welcome and special activities are laid on especially for them. In keeping with its eco-friendly promise, Azura Selous Lodge boasts its own water-treatment plant and is powered mainly by solar energy.

Safari At Azura Selous

Although you could enjoy the wilderness experience without moving far from the tented lodge, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the chance to safari walk leisurely in the morning amongst the giraffes, impalas and zebras in the company with your armed guide, who will regale you with natural lore and point out magical details of the finer smaller flora and fauna attractions you would not see otherwise on game drives. These walks are recommended in the morning while the sun starts to warm up and the animals are trekking to the riverbanks for a drink. Likewise, a boat cruise in the afternoon would allow you to spend time with the amazing birdlife, and try angling for the hard-fighting tiger fish. But fear not, you are in the expert hands of a guide who has spent many years learning the ways of the local denizens and the safest ways to pilot his steel craft with its powerful outboard engine quite close to scary hippo and prehistoric crocodiles, for an extra thrill with a safe distance. The classic game-viewing drive in a natural color 4x4 jeep shaded by a weatherproof awning and open sided for perfect panoramic photography, will get you within sight of prides of lions, packs of wild dogs and perhaps a mother cheetah with her cubs. Two-way radio enables your guide to add up to the minute sightings by discretionary colleagues to his own vast knowledge of the area to take you to the rarer animals, rhino, Uhehe red colobus monkey, Sanje crested mangabey, topi and Sharpe's greysbok. Holidays in Africa are all about the animals and the by-gone age of luxury. At Azura Selous, you can have it all. Plan and book your luxury safari with AfricanMecca today!

  • AfricanMecca's professionalism and care understands that what distinguishes Africa is its authenticity, the land, people and wildlife who do not share our world of fashion and fanfare that distinguish so many travel companies today.
