MAFIA ISLAND LODGE IN MAFIA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Mafia Island Lodge

Mafia Island Lodge is an economy accommodation sited on the southeastern sector on Mafia Island. This island is located south of Zanzibar Island, affording a tranquil destination for a discerning Indian Ocean beach vacation in Africa. You will be welcomed into an agreeable reception and common lounge that has a pleasant tropical island feel about it with its thatched roof and stonework detailing on the walls. The lounge and dining area are housed in a central building and the lodge rooms are spread out on either side of it. Sandy walkways lead out to a rustic shack on the beach where you can relax and perhaps order cool drinks and meals. The lodge has a collection of 34 rooms to meet the specifications of AfricanMecca guests looking for a no-frills stay while budget traveling on Mafia Island. Choose from the 18 Standard Rooms and 14 Superior Rooms. Families and groups of 4 guests can opt for the 2 Family Room units. Each of them has two interlinked rooms with a single shared bathroom. The rooms are furnished with either large double beds or twin beds and are covered with mosquito netting. The en-suite bathrooms include basic amenities – shower, wash basin and flush toilet. Optional laundry service is also available. You can relax on your own patio as you view the ocean across well-landscaped gardens. Wholesome continental, mediterranean and seafood cuisine is offered to you in the lodge’s restaurant. Breakfast served to your room is available on request.

Mafia Island is world famous for diving but also its castaway ambience. Take long walks on the beachfront with the waves tickling your toes even as you enjoy the gentle sea breeze and views of the stunning, blue of the Indian Ocean spread before you. Spend time on your dream marine holiday, swimming in the warm waters or snorkeling among the reefs to view the over 400 species of fish darting among the diverse variety of living coral in the many prime areas like the Utumbe, Kirongo Rocks and Milimani. Also, discover the gorgeous marine fauna of Chole Bay that both amateur and professional divers can easily traverse. If you were to tour Mafia Island with AfricanMecca during the months from July to October, you could have the rare opportunity to watch humpback whales making their way to the tepid waters of the Erythraean Red Sea. Kilindoni is the location for one of the most wonderful experiences possible – swimming with whale sharks as they feed on plankton. These gentle giants seem to favor some specific areas for feeding which makes them moderately easy to spot from October to March. The months from June through September have another prize treat for you. Watch the green and hawksbill turtles emerging from their nests in the sand and scrambling for the ocean. Visit the 13th-century ruins of the Kua settlement on Juani Island and do include a picnic on the sandbanks of Funguni to your itinerary for your idyllic Mafia trip in Tanzania. The rock pools left by the ebbing tide will reveal many tiny sea creatures. And a visit to Chole Island will allow you to view the fruit bats or flying foxes of Popo Park.
