WHERE TO STAY IN MAFIA

If you are planning a dream beach escapade on Mafia Island, your best option is to contact our expert tour consultant at AfricanMecca Safaris. You will receive detailed insider-information about the accommodations you can choose based on the Beach Tier rating system we have in place.

Beach Tier 1 premier accommodations offer you the finest of rooming with fewer sleeping quarters, sumptuous cuisine, top-notch services, outstanding location, easy access to activities and more, perfectly suited for the exclusive traveler for whom cost is of no concern. Regrettably, there are no Beach Tier 1 luxury hotels on the island but you can opt to stay in Zanzibar if you prefer a Tier 1 beach resort.

If you choose the deluxe Beach Tier 2 accommodations, you can expect high-quality rooms, delicious cuisine, applaudable services, excellent location but sometimes, slightly higher number of rooms than a Tier 1. If these are the accommodations you are looking for, then Mafia Island has a selection of three superior hotels, the Chole Mjini Lodge, Kinasi Lodge and Pole Pole.

Owner run by the Villiers family, The Chole Mjini is located in a delightful verdant spot beside the ocean in lush groves of baobab and mangrove trees. They have a unique Tier 2 collection of seven treehouses where guests can stay in a castaway eco-style for the duration of their travel in this part of Tanzania. Each of the treehouses has Kiswahili numeric names from one (moja) to seven (saba) and are built distinctly from each other. A couple of these units have two bedrooms and are suitable for families or groups of four guests.

Set at deluxe Tier 2 with 13 rooms, Kinasi Lodge is located in amidst coconut and cashew nut trees and has an enchanting coastal Swahili style décor and architecture with a tinge of Persian Shirazi influence. You can choose from their eight Garden View Rooms or five Seafront Rooms. Some of the rooms have twin beds while others have double beds.

If you are touring Mafia Island in a family group of four guests then, you could opt for their two-bedroom Seafront unit that includes a single shared bathroom. One of the Garden View Rooms is an Owner's Suite and has its own lounge and bar on the lower floor with a bedroom on the upper floor.

Pole Pole is yet another mid-range Tier 2 accommodation you can choose for your Indian Ocean holiday in Eastern Africa. Built with the theme of authentic island living in mind, it has 7 Bungalow Suites, each facing the ocean. Two of these bungalows are two-bedroom units and are suitable for groups of four or families. En-suite bathrooms include twin washbasins, bidet, wooden cubicle shower, and should you need it, you can request for a hairdryer from the reception.

AfricanMecca Safaris recommends a third category of beach tier accommodations, the value Beach Tier 3. These hotels are well-suited for the vacationer who is looking for economical, no-frills living spaces with a higher number of rooms than a Tier 2, wholesome meals, friendly service and more. The Mafia Island Lodge is one such accommodation with 34 rooms, offering 18 Standard Rooms and 14 Superior Rooms for budget guests on their Mafia Island trip.

The lodge also has two Family Room units that have two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. Using the Beach Tier rating system, you can select the optimum accommodation for your seaside holiday that is best suited to your personal preference, cost concerns and other expectations.
