GUIDE ON KUTAZAMA LODGE IN KENYA
Charming only begins to describe Kutazama Lodge, a mid-range boutique accommodation that is located in the Shimba Hills wilderness. Its conservation area is wholesomely part of Shimba Hills National Reserve, Mkongani Forest Reserve and Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, giving you a first-hand East African equatorial safari experience unlike any other. Set amidst 31 acres of indigenous gardens, the lodge truly is a stunning place to relax and unwind during your bush tour of Shimba Hills with AfricanMecca. Kutazama is a stunning example of architecture that blends perfectly into the landscape. The structures are built around the existing rock and trees, so each room features natural elements that are complemented with Swahili native art. Only two suites are available, so you are given the utmost personalized service, including your own butler and chef. The soothing effect of the outdoor setting extends into the spherical design of the Frangipani Suite. The space feels large without losing a sense of intimacy and solitude. A large four-poster bed invites you to rest your body and mind, and natural light filters into every part of the room. The en-suite bathroom features double shower, dual-sink vanity, toilet and bidet. Carved Swahili doors lead you to an open lounge where you read, journal about your dream forest holiday in Kenya and savor delectable dishes that are prepared for you. Step through the large double French doors, and you find yourself in a private romantic outdoor area with raised garden, Jacuzzi and magnificent frangipani tree for which the suite is named. The second suite is the two-level Orchid Treehouse Villa. Secluded within the natural vegetation, the suite features a spacious bedroom, deck with Jacuzzi and en-suite bathroom on the first level. A lounge and kitchen are located on the second level, as well as a private sunbathing deck with views of the elephant preserve. You are gently awakened each morning by your butler who brings aromatic tea and coffee to your bedside which you may enjoy under the covers or on your private deck. The pristine setting invigorates your senses and builds your anticipation for the day ahead. Join your hosts who are also your personal guide through the many natural and cultural treasures of Shimba Hills National Reserve, the elephant sanctuary and many other attractions. Shimba Hills National Reserves is one of the top 25 biodiversity hotspots in the world, and we recommend a game drive and a bush walk in the reserve for an African exploratory vacation experience that you will not forget. Return to Kutazama for a scrumptious breakfast before walking through the property to enjoy the gardens, small animals and birds, or take a lovely swim in the pool. A mouthwatering lunch may increase your energy for more exploring, or you may simply need a quick nap. Afternoon tea and sweet delights enliven your senses once again for your late day activity. You may choose from an exploratory trip visit to the Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary, cultural tour of Digo and Duruma villages or nature walk (read more on when is the best time to visit Shimba Hills). Even the most-experienced AfricanMecca traveler in Kenya is intrigued by these walks as your hosts take you to Chitaane Waterfalls and a kaya, one of the sacred sites found in the area.
