GUIDE ON LEOPARD ROCK LODGE IN KENYA
Sited within the little visited Meru National Park, Leopard Rock Lodge is a budget accommodation comprising of individual cottages laid out in a natural landscape dotted with trees and shrubbery. The lodge has no fences so animals roam freely in the grounds. You will be welcomed on your non-frill trip to Meru in a two-story reception cottage that also houses the guest lounge, bar and dining room. The entire lodge is created with an eclectic building style that combines stone and wood with strong overtones while high ceilings made of thatch adds a village feel to the accommodation. However, AfricanMecca concludes that the lodge seems somewhat worn down, lacking in maintenance and also the presence of guests (read more on where else to stay in Meru National Park). The veranda outside the lounge has a stone floor with a wooden viewing deck on one side. A campfire is lit in the evenings around which you can enjoy sundowner drinks and listen to the sounds of the night like maybe a lion roaring or laughing hyena. A meandering swimming pool surrounded by well-maintained lawns flops to mimic the Murera River flowing close by, but you can relax with a drink on your dream vacation in Africa at the thatched pool bar. Stone-bordered pathways lead from the main reception house to the 15 cottages that overlook the wild surroundings. Each cottage has four-poster beds with diaphanous mosquito curtains and you can choose from cottages either with double beds or with twin beds. A little seating area is included with furniture that takes you back to the yesteryears while a carved armoire adds a touch of African art. Blinds cover the doors and windows and the all-weather high thatched roof shelters you from the elements. The attached bathroom comes with a bath, twin basins and basic amenities of an economy accommodation. Each cottage has a wide patio outside where you can spend some leisurely time on your relaxed Meru tour and perhaps spot a thirsty elephant as it makes its way to the river to drink. While at the Murera River, you can also watch the hippos as they lie submerged and some of the 300 bird species singing in the trees. A giraffe might stop by to sample some acacia leaves while a monkey or two could visit you at meal times with the hope of being offered a roll. Dining is primarily indoors and any outdoor meals in the bush are at a supplementary cost. You can explore Meru National Park on your wildlife holiday in Kenya in custom-built safari vehicles with a guide on board who is well trained and experienced in the behavior of animals and tracking their movements. He is well versed in their names and species and you will be enthralled by the variety of animals and birds you see. Look for gerenuks, Grevy's zebras, reticulated giraffes, lesser kudus, common waterbuck, baboons and many more. Nature walks in Meru are another exciting way of learning more about the flora and fauna while appreciating the unusual sensations, sights, sounds and odors all around you. Contact AfricanMecca Safaris to plan your itinerary for your Meru travel in East Africa and have a wilderness vacation with many memorable moments.
