GUIDE ON MARA ENKIPAI SAFARI CAMP IN KENYA
The Mara Enkipai Safari Camp is an ideal example of the enduring spell Africa can cast over you so you never, ever want to leave. Built on the location of Jacqueline Roumeguere's home bordering the western sector of Masai Mara National Reserve, just a kilometer away from the Oloololo Gate, this camp is now owned and operated by her son, George and his family. In addition to 8 roomy tents set up on the banks of the rushing Mara River, you could stay in her original home on your Kenya bush vacation. A unassertive accommodation, it allows for long relaxing hours watching the hippos cooling off in the river water or herds of elephants arriving for baths and later a generous spraying of mud. Revel in the warm hospitality of your hosts as George recounts his childhood living in Masai Mara and becoming part of a generous Maasai family along with his siblings. Their years in this glorious part of Africa have instilled in them the same values that the Maasai live by, and the camp is run along austere eco-friendly rules. Solar power provides electricity, and the food is cooked with fresh ingredients from the Enkipai vegetable patch. The tents are constructed using canvas with large mesh windows that let in the sounds of the wilderness, of birds chirping and animals calling, as you sleep at the end of another exciting day of your AfricanMecca exploratory travels in Masai Mara Reserve. The furniture is handcrafted by local artisans using naturally available components, and each tent has double or twin beds. Your tent also has a distinct dressing area and a spacious patio outside while the attached bathroom is equipped for a hot bucket shower experience that you will surely enjoy on your safari tour of Africa.
Enjoy a self-catering trip into the past by staying at the non-frill Mara Enkipai House if you are visiting Africa with friends and family. The 4 bedrooms house, each furnished with a double bed, has a very rustic appeal having been built with volcanic stone harvested from the surrounding locale. The master bedroom includes an attached bathroom while the second bathroom is common to the other rooms. You will also have a dedicated team of staff members assigned to take care of your requirements for the duration of your wondrous trip in Kenya. If you choose to, you can cook your own meals or request the services of a chef. The house also has an outdoor riverside lounge for spending time reading and sipping beverages or cocktails. You wilderness holiday in East Africa at the Mara Enkipai Camp is a time of excitement and tranquility that you can spend as you please. Have al-fresco meals beside the river or participate in an Olpul or meat festival for Maasai warriors. Go for game drives in a custom-built safari vehicle and listen as your experienced AfricanMecca guide reveals to you little known secrets of the wildlife you will track and see in Mara Triangle. You will be filled with incredulous wonder at the sight of the seasonal wildebeest Migration as it traverses through Masai Mara from the Serengeti (July to October), and awe at the flora with its many healing powers that your naturalist guide points out on your bush walks. Waft over the incredible land of the reserve and its many inhabitants in a hot air balloon and visit the local Maasai village for discernment into their centuries-old culture.
