GUIDE ON AMANI MARA LODGE IN KENYA
The picturesque landscape of the Olare Motorogi wilderness stretches in front of you and from the lofty, viewing deck of the Amani Mara Lodge; you can watch elephants, giraffes, buffaloes and many more animals as they visit the Olare Orok River below to drink. Hippos lie half-submerged in the water, grunting every now and then while crocodiles watch for an easy meal they can snag. As breathtaking as the vistas, is the pastoral decor of the lounge and dining area with its mud and stone detailing, rustic tree trunk pillars and eccentric fireplace design. You will adore their rough-hewn wood furniture with planks for tables and mud ceilings that create the village-like safari ambience for your nature holiday in the great plains of south-western Kenya. Created using eco-friendly materials of mud, canvas, hessian and stone, and inspired by East African architectural styles, this economy lodge has a distinct charm to it. Perched on a hilly terrain, the rooms each have a deck that overlooks the river. Ocher-colored mud walls supported on a framework of tree trunks surround you and seem to compliment the olive wood bed with its mosquito netting that lends a dreamy feel to the room. With a total of 14 rooms, some of the rooms come with a king-size double bed while others have twin king size beds that are well suited for families of four traveling in Masai Mara National Reserve with AfricanMecca. The lodge also offers a one family suite that comprises of a double room, an added room with two single beds and a private lounge. En-suite bathroom includes double basins and a shower area while the five double rooms also include a sunken bath out on the deck so you can enjoy, long romantic soaks with the wilderness spread out all around you. But if you have opted for the family suite, you can enjoy its plunge pool. Solar panels silently generate the electricity to light your rooms and animals like zebras, impalas wandering around the camp add that element of excitement to your diverse AfricanMecca safari trip. But be rest assured, when you need to leave your room, a Maasai guard will accompany you. You will awaken each morning to hot tea or coffee served in your room before you leave for your morning game drive. Spend the day cruising along in custom-equipped safari vehicles exploring the stunning world of Masai Mara with its Big Five, the lion, buffalo, elephant, rhino and leopard and over 450 species of avian fauna. Listen as your Masai guide talks about the many denizens of the reserve with pride and offers you astonishing facts he has gathered from his experiences with them. Note due to restrictions in traversal rights, Amani Mara does its game drives inside the public Masai Mara National Reserve, and not in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy. Your walks in the bush as you foot tour the Masai Mara are delightful expeditions where you can view the insect life and diverse flora many of which are used by the Maasai to make healing elixirs. Visit their village and you might have the rare privilege of watching them being made along with other cultural experiences. Have your meals back at Amani Mara on its viewing deck or al fresco in the bush. The lodge serves hot breakfast and you can also have a bush picnic lunch if you wish you stay out longer on your game drive. Dinner includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes cooked with fresh local ingredients. Add in an afternoon of relaxation to your non-frill Kenya vacation beside the elevated swimming pool and enjoy the peace of Amani Mara Lodge less the chic.
