GUIDE ON CHEETAH TENTED CAMP IN KENYA
For your modest safari holiday in Masai Mara, we recommend Cheetah Tented Camp. The accommodation is situated on the banks of the famed Mara River in the Mara North Conservancy. The river is known as being the prime location for one of the most thrilling aspects of the migration in Masai Mara – the crossings – this is where massive herds of wildebeests and zebras run the gauntlet of ferocious crocodiles that lay in wait in the murky waters. The Mara-Serengeti ecosystem where the camp is sited is known for its abundance of flora and fauna; therefore, an excellent base for your wildlife safari in south-western Kenya at any time of year. With only 5 tents to tend, the staff delivers fantastic service, an unexpected treat for economical travel in Africa. For an interactive yet passive safari experience, we recommended that you choose one of the tents that are sited near the water. You have wonderful views of the wildlife activity at the river, such as hippos immersing themselves, crocodiles stalking prey, elephants coming to drink/bath and much more. The tents feature private verandahs, en-suite bathrooms with shower and flush toilet, wood floors, relaxing beds and smaller furnishings to create a homely atmosphere. Cheetah Tented Camp has an option for a larger suite for a maximum of five AfricanMecca guests should you desire a more spacious retreat. The prominent feature of the open floor suite plan is a charming four-poster bed at the center of the space. You also have a small round table with chairs for in-room dining, playing board games, writing and much more. The en-suite bathroom features a double-sink vanity with mirror, shower and flush toilet. Outside the suite is a private verandah with seating. The Kenya bush welcomes you each day with a warming and inviting sunrise. Shortly after you awaken, you meet with your guide to discuss your morning plans. Early morning is a delightful time for a safari activity. We do recommend an early game drive because the morning light enhances your nature and wildlife photography. You travel in a comfortable custom-built safari vehicle to the finest vantage points in the game reserve to see elephants, giraffes, gazelles, buffalos and other foragers and grazers. Locating predators is challenging, but your guide is adept at locating these stealthy hunters, so you may see lions, cheetahs, hyenas and other carnivores. Due to restrictions on traversal rights, Cheetah Tented Camp does its game drives inside the reserve, and not in Mara North Conservancy. Should you stay at Cheetah Tented Camp from July to October, you also see first-hand the herds of wildebeests and zebras of the Great Migration. AfricanMecca recommends that you include a bush meal as part of your full day tour of Masai Mara, although breakfast is also available at camp if you opted for a bush walk. The rest of your day is quite flexible. You may spend time napping, writing, reading, watching wildlife from your verandah and many other pastimes. The only schedule you have is to socialize and join other guests for a tasty lunch. A second activity is recommended in the afternoon, which may be a game drive or bush walk, followed by sundowners. Return to camp for dinner, and then you may trip back out into the bush for an intriguing Kenya nature vacation experience – a night game drive. Maasai village visits, as well as hot air ballooning at sunrise, give you a unique perspective of life in the East African bush.
