CHE SHALE IN MALINDI
For a small, rustic and unpretentious accommodation that is also easy on your wallet, opt for Che Shale in Malindi, surrounded by beautiful flora and three miles of sandy brown beaches. The 7 traditional bandas immerse you in the tropical paradise of your seaside trip in East Africa, and each banda reflects the casual lifestyle of beach lovers with coconut thatch roof, woven doum palm mats, driftwood and natural mango wood furniture all set within a neutral color palette (read more on when is the best time to travel to Malindi). The five Standard Che Shale bandas are available in double, triple and family sizes, and some have loft bedroom and open air shower. The two larger Kajama bandas are built on stilts and feature private verandah with seating to give you lovely ocean breezes and expansive views of the ocean, and inside, these deluxe bandas have a king size bed and large bathroom. Couples who are on a modest romantic beach holiday in Malindi with AfricanMecca may prefer the privacy of the Deluxe Bandas. The two Family Bandas can accommodate four to six guests. The least cost simple bandas do not have a private toilet and shower. If you are uncomfortable with insects that are found in your rustic dwelling due to its wilderness nature, do not arrive here as this accommodation is beach-wild! Additionally, Standard Bandas are situated in the gardens with somewhat limited ocean views, and electricity is shut off later at night after your tuck-in due to the hotel’s eco motto. Arrive with a headlight torch for any night-time reading. The showers only use fresh water during the rainy season and salt water the remainder of the year. Bottled water is provided for dental scrubbing! There is no swimming pool here except the all-natural humongous Indian Ocean. The food at Che Shale will satisfy your appetite with a selection of barbecued meats and fresh seafood served with refreshing juices, smoothies, cocktails and other beverage choices. The skewered king prawns are especially delicious and other distinct specialties available are battered seaweed, grilled lobster, stir fry, ceviche, Greek salad, and your sweet tooth is satisfied with coconut pudding, passion fruit cream and other desserts. If this rustic chalet hotel is hosting a large party of kite surfers during your relaxing beach vacation in Kenya, it may get noisy and house-full, but these group events happen only occasionally. Breakfast includes “full English” options, such as cereal, bacon, eggs, yogurt, toast and fruit, while your lunch is a la carte and dinner is a set menu. Delightful evening entertainment is often provided by the resort staff, and the local drummers are a fascinating part of any cultural beach tour of Malindi. You may also consider visiting Baharini School, Giriama Cultural Village and Malindi town. Surfing, snorkeling, diving, kitesurfing, stand up paddling and deep sea fishing are just some of the high-paced aquatic activities that you may choose for your dream seashore travel on the Indian Ocean, or from October through April, you can climb aboard the hotel’s dhow Sawa Sawa for a wonderful sail across the bay. To maximize on the rest and relaxation this distinct accommodation has got to offer, arrive only after concluding your Kenya safari with AfricanMecca of Samburu, Great Rift Valley lakes, Masai Mara, Amboseli or the Tsavo wildernesses.
