GUIDE ON LOISABA WILDERNESS IN KENYA
Immerse yourself in 56,000 acres of exclusive African bush at Loisaba, a community-based conservancy and lodge situated within the greater Laikipia. Loisaba Wilderness Conservancy is jointly operated by the Samburu and Maasai communities with part of the proceeds benefiting vital projects to enhance the quality of life of these native peoples. Choose from three accommodation options, each offering a unique African wilderness holiday experience. Loisaba Bush Camp features 11 classic tents with flush toilets and traditional hot bucket showers. Guest tents are available as family, triple and twin/double, as well as a special honeymoon tent for truly utopian trip to the Laikipia ecology. Loisaba Cottage offers the utmost pampering and personalized service, as guests who stay at the cottage are treated to dedicated staff, superlative safari guides and custom game drive vehicle. The cottage features one room in the main cottage and three detached bungalow rooms. Although the room inside the cottage is slightly smaller, we recommend the room for guests with limited mobility for easy access to common areas. The two bungalow rooms are situated in the gardens, and the third bungalow room is the most private as it is raised on an elevated platform and away from the other guest rooms. For an enchanting Kenyan travel experience with AfricanMecca, spend your nights sleeping under the stars in one of the Loisaba Wilderness starbeds, an outdoor four-poster bed that is draped in mosquito netting. The Kiboko Starbeds overlook a watering hole and valley while the Koija Starbeds are set on the bare banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River. There are four starbed platforms at each site with both having a twin platform with two double starbeds and a shared bathroom – perfect for families with two teenage children (same gender) who can sleep together or two guests who require twins starbeds. An adventurous suspension bridge needs to be crossed to get to Koija while a pathway exists for Kiboko.
At Loisaba Wilderness, you enjoy the African bush without the restrictions that are common in national parks and other protected areas, so expect to have the most thrilling Laikipia vacation at Loisaba Conservancy. Start your day with a cup of tea or coffee, and then join your guide for a morning game drive tour across the vast plains and along the river. You may see the Big 5, as well as avi-fauna, other plains game and lions, leopards, cheetahs and other stealthy predators. Remain in the bush for breakfast or return to your accommodation to join other guests at the main lodge. Take a short guided walk to see giraffes, warthogs, Grevy’s zebras, elephants, reticulated giraffes and other animals before lunch. Your afternoon is spent relaxing next to the pool or rejuvenating tired muscles with a massage, and a pot of tea or coffee prepares you for a wonderful horseback or camel safari. We recommend a bush dinner next to the waterfall for an intimate dining experience before returning to camp for quiet conversation and storytelling with other guests. Your AfricanMecca tour planner can also arrange fishing, community visits and river rafting down the Ewaso Nyiro and Ng’are Narok Rivers to further enhance your exploratory Kenya safari at Loisaba Wilderness.
