Salome's Garden - Zanzibar, Fuji - Bububu Beach

Salome's Garden is one of the restored private homes of the Zanzibar Royal family. The house situated at Bububu, four miles to the North of Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, is surrounded by 18 acres of walled private orchards and tropical gardens full of bougainvillea that runs down to the beach.

The whole house is furnished throughout with Zanzibari antiques, original colonial furniture, Persian carpets, lamps and shades from India and Turkey, and traditional tiles from the Arab world in the bathrooms.

The beds are all traditional Zanzibari four-poster beds with mosquito nets with the colonial fans inside the netted area for maximum ventilation. The fans are rarely needed as all the rooms benefit from the sea breeze that blows through the house.

Tell Me More About Salome's Garden Located Near The Fuji Beach and Bububu Area, Zanzibar Island, as an Indian Ocean Island Beach Accommodation in Tanzania

The house is truly magnificent and has been completely restored and refurbished in 1997, and is now a luxury guesthouse or used for full house rentals. The accommodation has only four bedrooms sleeping a maximum of 10 and is managed like a private house rather than as a hotel.
The property, probably built in the mid 1800's has a long history, and has been leased by House of Wonders from the royal family of Al Busaid who once ruled the island. In the 1860's, the house is also believed to have been the last residence of Princess Salome, the daughter from the liaison between Sultan Seyyid Said Busaid and a Circassian Concubine. Two large terraces have been tastefully added to the house in the first half of the 1900's. Characteristics of the four bedrooms include:
Salome's Garden Bedroom One (Dedicated To Sultan Majid): The room runs the full length of the front of the house. High ceilings with mangrove pole stays, five arched double windows with nets run round two sides of the room with views through the garden to the sea. A pair of matching double beds with net and traditional ceiling fan is the centerpiece of the room, which leads into a spacious tiled bathroom with a typical Zanzibari tub and decorative Arabic tiles. A large traditional Zanzibar door opens up onto steps running down to the secluded front garden, shaded by a large avocado tree.
Salome's Garden Bedroom Two (Dedicated To Princess Salome): Runs the length of the house and nine double windows look out over the sea below. The room is sparsely furnished to give emphasis to its natural beauty. There is a large Zanzibari four-poster double bed with net and ceiling fan, writing desk and lounge chairs. At one end of the room, narrow stairs run down to a mezzanine floor with a private bathroom with shower, toilet, sink and marble massage area. This is general regarded as one of the most beautiful rooms in the whole of Zanzibar.
Salome's Garden Bedroom Three (Dedicated To Princess Bi Khole): Large living area with table and chairs and a four-poster bed. In addition, a small room has been created to represent a sensual separate tent like sleeping area with fan and window and a spectacular bathroom with tub finished off with Arabic tiles. Although no sea-view, the views through the palms into the orchard are just as attractive.
Salome's Garden Bedroom Four (Dedicated To Sultan Bargash): Entrance either through a traditional carved Zanzibari door from the atrium or up external stairs from the outside of the house. The room is beautifully decorated with traditional furniture and this suite has its own private terrace that looks up the coast towards Stone Town, and a pretty private bathroom that leads off the terrace with a great view of the sea from the shower.
