FUNDU LAGOON IN PEMBA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Fundu Lagoon

Fundu Lagoon is a deluxe resort located on the southwestern seashore of Pemba Island, a beautiful green island in the Indian Ocean off the eastern coast of Tanzania. Best accessible by air from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam, this entire mid-range lodge is constructed with thatch, coconut poles and other native wood lending in an authentic coastal ambience that is both rustic and elegant all at once; though, the room exterior is structured in safari style – canvas tented.

It is highly recommended for honeymooners and romantics who prefer a secluded and intimate beach accommodation. You will enjoy relaxing on your seaside vacation in Pemba Island (why visit it), seated in their outdoor lounge-cum-bar that seems to float over the ocean. They have yet another lounge decorated with carved artifacts, bead curtains and wooden loungers. Boarded walkways lead between the common sections, small swimming pool and the tented rooms.

AfricanMecca guests traveling can choose from 12 rooms and 6 suites in 4 categories such as Standard Hillside Room, Standard Beachfront Room, Beach - Jungle and Superior Suites. The Hillside Rooms are located higher up the incline whereas the Beachfront Rooms are located on the beach. Lush tropical greenery surrounds the resort and act as effective curtains to accord the guests’ maximum privacy. Each of the rooms can sleep two guests in either double or twin beds but only the Superior Suite can accommodate two extra beds for the third and fourth guest.

The Superior Suites have an added room on a higher deck where two additional guests can sleep. Both the Suite and Superior Suite also have a private plunge pool and daybeds shaded under canvas parasols. Have your meals in their in-house restaurant with stunning views of the ocean or on their outdoor lounge. Fundu Lagoon also arranges for al fresco dinners on the sandy white beach lighted with lanterns under the star-studded velvet African sky.

There is a wide range of water activities that you can enjoy when holidaying at Fundu Lagoon. You could go kayaking, wakeboarding and windsurfing. Take long leisurely strolls on the beachfront and enjoy the soft ocean breezes caressing your skin. Take pictures of the seashells left on the shore by the receding tide or of the dreamy, romantic sight of traditional dhows with their stained white triangular sails floating on the sea with the golden backdrop of the setting sun.

The waters of the Indian Ocean around Pemba Island host a number of fantastic sites where you could go diving and snorkeling when touring the East African underworld. There seem to be miles of gorgeous coral gardens where an incredible plethora of delightful creatures animate. The waters are so clear that the sunlight filters down lighting up the ocean for depths up to 40 meters so you can view Napoleon wrasses, tuna, starfish, garden eels, manta and eagle rays, barracudas, jacks and many more. You might also spot green and hawksbill turtles here and there.

The ocean’s wild splashes of color will allow you to uncover new delights everywhere. Add an angling expedition to your AfricanMecca trip on Pemba Island aboard a custom-built fishing boat that will also have an experienced skipper and all the equipment you need. Enjoy the tranquility of the sweeping ocean until you get a bite and then be absorbed by the excitement of trying to land the fish. Look for giant trevally, sailfish, broadbill, marlins and spearfish, to name a few.
