BEST TIME TO VISIT MALINDI DURING YOUR COASTAL TRAVELS IN EASTERN KENYA

The swaying palm trees, fresh ocean air and lovely beaches of Malindi entice you to enjoy all that the outdoors offers, and the weather can play a significant role in the quality of your coastal travel in Kenya. Climate change has made the weather in Kenya slightly fickle, so AfricanMecca Safaris wants to provide you with some general guidelines to consider with the understanding that the weather during your travel may slightly differ somewhat. Malindi experiences two rainy seasons with the long rainy period being in April and May with dusting of rain starting and ending in late March and through June respectively and this is followed by the long dry season from July through October. Shorter rains arrive in November and December before the short hot-dry period in January and February. Rainfall is typically most significant in May with an average of more than 12 inches of rain. The second wettest month is April with an average rainfall of approximately 8 inches. Note that accommodation prices in Watamu reduce during the rainy months that attract seasonal beach visitors on a longer stay to benefit from the lower room rates (read more on where to stay in Malindi). Kenya being right at the equator has its advantageous during this time. It does not rain all day nor throughout the weeks. You have overcasts, but you also get breaks of sunshine during the day. As a seaside destination, Malindi has higher humidity levels than what you may experience while on safari further inland, but the temperatures remain comfortable with the incoming ocean breeze and the comfort of room air-conditioning. The warmest months are end of December through early March with average temperatures around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 Celsius) while July and August are the coolest months with an average temperature of 80 degrees Fahrenheit (27 Celsius). Evening temperatures are also comfortable all year round averaging 70 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit (21 to 24 Celsius) throughout the year, though varied depending on your month of travel.
