OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY

Are You Planning A Kenya Safari To Ol Pejeta? Scroll Down For Details..

GUIDE ON OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY IN SOUTHERN LAIKIPIA

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 90,000-acre private fenced conservancy situated between the Aberdare Mountains and Mount Kenya. As part of the southern Laikipia wilderness, Ol Pejeta works to protect its distinct habitats, including a wildlife corridor along the northern boundary of the conservancy.

When you visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy on your wildlife tour with AfricanMecca, you have the opportunity to see members of the Big 5 – lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and both the endangered black and white rhino, as well as the threatened jackson’s hartebeests and grevy’s zebras. The conservancy is home to the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, and you can also observe both the northern and southern endangered white rhinos.

Your exclusive access is sure to be thrilling as the conservancy is recognized as having a higher density of wildlife per acre and also a high density of predators in Kenya though due to its restricted size and fence that restricts maximal wildlife movement compared to Masai Mara and other unfenced conservancies north of Ol Pejeta.

Another of the conservancy’s wildlife projects is the chimpanzee sanctuary, the only one in Kenya endorsed by the Jane Goodall Institute. Bird lovers will also enjoy spending time at Ol Pejeta as more than 300 species of avi-fauna have been recorded. The conservancy works closely with the Kenyan government and operates according to the most stringent international standards.

The primary focus of the conservancy is to ensure that the delicate ecosystems are not harmed as a result of activities undertaken by the conservancy. Specific species are monitored, and important research is conducted to inform wildlife management decision makers. Part of the revenue generated by safari tourism is used to expand conservation work beyond the boundaries, as well as for significant community outreach.
