GUIDE ON LARSENS CAMP IN KENYA
Located in Samburu National Reserve along the Ewaso Nyiro River, Larsens Camp is a premium accommodation that assures a superlative wilderness trip experience in northern Kenya. Each of the 20 luxury tents is situated on the property to optimize the views of the river and awaken you with the golden light of sunrise. The modern safari style embraces you with elegance while providing you with an authentic African safari experience of sleeping under a canopy of indigenous trees while listening to the sounds of the bush. Constructed on a foundation of natural stone, your tent is designed with a private patio for wildlife viewing and personal enjoyment of vast vistas of the Kenyan wilds. For the utmost in comfort, the camp offers tents with one king or two twin beds, overhead fan, safety trunk, dressing table with chairs, hanging space, all with a full en-suite bathroom that includes ample hot water, flush toilet, hairdryer and much more. All of the guest tents at Larsens Camp are comparable in size and location along the river. We do, though, encourage AfricanMecca guests to consider the distance from each tent to the common areas; through, the tents furthest away from the main areas do not require much more of a walk as the property is not on distant grounds, but wildlife presence and activity does tend to be higher around these furthest tents. Families who are traveling with children may prefer the tents that are closer to the common areas. The tents are not spread apart to be considered totally private so unintentional sounds of your neighbors or eye visuals from surrounding tents are not uncommon.
The charm of Samburu surrounds you from the moment you wake up until you drift peacefully to sleep. Coffee and tea are brought to your tent as part of your wake-up call, and resident monkeys scamper across the roof in playful delight. Freshen up a bit before joining your expert guide for a much-anticipated tour of Samburu National Reserve in a specially-designed 4x4-safari vehicle. The roof hatch is open, giving you the perfect vantage point for photography and observation while remaining safe and comfortable inside the vehicle (read more on when is the best time to go to Samburu). Your activity-intense bush holiday in Kenya is sure to build your appetite for gastronomical creations, and the food quality at Larsens Camp satisfies even the most discerning food lover. Breakfast is served a-la-carte in one of the many spectacular locations on the property, such as the deck by the river, in the bush, on the tree deck overlooking the watering, just to name a few of the wonderful sites. AfricanMecca Safaris can also arrange for a champagne breakfast in the bush. The late morning is spent on a leisurely birding walk with a guide, swimming in the pool, napping in your tent or reading. After lunch, gather with other guests to share safari vacationing stories and even gain some useful insight into the many ways to spend your adventurous travel in East and Southern Africa. Afternoon tea is served before you head back out into the wilderness, and as the sun sets, your guide takes you to a beautiful location for cocktails before returning to camp for a scrumptious dinner outdoors underneath the glittery African sky or indoors in the dining tent.
