GUIDE ON SAND RIVER MASAI MARA IN KENYA
Inspired by the traditional camps of the 1920s, Sand River Masai Mara is an upscale accommodation for your authentic, boutique African safari vacation. The stylish early-century décor and construction takes you back to a time when Kenya was first being explored. The 16 guest tents are well-placed on the property along the edge of the Sand River Masai Mara to create a picturesque and charming setting. These luxury tents offer an impressive 48-square meters of space that includes sleeping area with four-poster bed, armchair, chests, bedside tables and lamps, full-length mirror and bench. The sitting area features a coffee table, sofa and writing desk, and the bathroom is tastefully designed with free-standing bathtub, dual-sink vanity, mirror, shelf, towel racks, cabinets under the vanity and separate outdoor shower. For your family holiday in Masai Mara National Reserve, Sand River Masai Mara offers a large two-bedroom tent. The design accents are understated, yet elegant, including Persian-like rugs, neutral colors and fabrics with sophisticated yet subtle patterns. The camp layout enhances your privacy and sense of seclusion with a unique configuration of two separate campsites. The first Area 1 campsite has ten guest tents and tented dining area and reception, while the second Area 2 campsite (informally knows as Little Sand River Masai Mara) has only six tents and a tented dining area. Small AfricanMecca groups may reserve an entire Area 1 or 2 campsite for the utmost privacy during their wilderness travel in Kenya. In addition to the dining areas and reception, other common areas include a library, swimming pool and billiards room.
As a premium accommodation, Sand River Masai Mara offers the highest quality of service from the moment you greet the day until you peacefully fall to sleep. Each morning coffee, tea and light edible delights are brought to your tent. After you freshen up, join your professional guide to coordinate your desired activities for the day. A morning game drive exposes you to unique early-day wildlife behaviors before the animals escape into the shade and vegetation. Seeing the Big 5 and other resident animals is a highlight of your bush trip to East Africa, and from July to October you are also likely to see the plains filled with immense herds of herbivores that enter the reserve as part of the Great Wildebeest Migration from the Serengeti. A scrumptious breakfast awaits you at camp, and you spend the remainder of your morning exploring the avi-fauna around the camp, reading and taking a delightful siesta. Your lunch may be served at the camp or added to your morning game drive at a lovely location in the bush. The early afternoon hours are casual and relaxed without a set schedule, so you may partake of a game of billiards, cool off in the pool, interact with other guests and journal in your travel diary. Tea and snacks are served before your late day activity followed by sundowners and dinner. A distinctive activity that is offered in Masai Mara to complement your exploratory photo tour of Kenya is a hot air balloon safari. This activity can be booked via your AfricanMecca safari planner and is scheduled in the early morning hours and concludes with a champagne bush breakfast and en-route game drive on the return.
