GUIDE ON MARA INTREPIDS CAMP IN KENYA
Amidst the Masai Mara National Reserve alongside the Talek River flowing lazily by and crocodiles basking on the riverbanks coupled with hippos wallowing in the waters is the Mara Intrepids Camp. An open, airy lounge, bar and dining area, sheltered under a thatch roof, perched on raised wooden decks, create the perfect safari ambience for your trip in magical Kenya with AfricanMecca. Added to that is the camp's strategic location which offers you easy accessibility to Masai Mara's prime game watching sections and the watch tower that allows you sweeping views of the surrounding landscape, best to visited during evening twilight. Relax beside their keyhole shaped swimming pool or take languorous swims in between your game drives or instead stop at their spa for a relaxing massage to ease sore muscles. A mid-range Heritage branded accommodation, the camp offers 30 river-facing, spacious tents for your stay while traveling in the great plains of East Africa, some of them erected on concrete decks while others on elevated wooden platforms with steps leading up. Each canvas tent with zip-up entrances includes four-poster beds with mosquito netting, and you can choose from rooms with either a queen size double bed or twin beds. A writing desk, wooden storage chest and clothes rack lend a yesteryear feel to the room while the patio outside with its comfortable chairs are ideal for watching buffaloes and other herbivores visiting the river to drink. The camp also offers laundry services, bug repellants and turndown services with hot water bottles, should the weather turn chilly at night. The en-suite bathroom comes with a shower area, quality toiletries and twin basins wrapped in a wooden vanity case.
If you are family vacationing in Masai Mara Reserve with two or three children, the Family Tents should be your choice. These tents include an exclusive lounge and two bedrooms, one with a queen size double bed and the other with two single beds. Each of the rooms has an en-suite bathroom complete with the standard amenities. Mara Intrepids Club have special activities centered towards children under the banner of its Adventurers' Club. Have your meals in the dining section or on the open deck outside, beside the river. The camp assigns an attendant to each AfricanMecca party of guests to take of their needs at meal times. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, but you have the option of requesting packed breakfast for your extended morning game drive. At dinner, they serve varied options, and you can also have a private dinner with your safari mates on your culinary tour of Kenya under the open African sky with its blanket of twinkling stars. Listen to the hyenas laughing, elephants trumpeting and lions roaring as you dine on a varied selection of dishes. Set off on game drives each morning after wake-up coffee, tea for the adults or hot chocolate for the kids. As you drive along the safari trails in your custom-equipped safari vehicle, your experienced guide describes to you the wondrous wildlife you see in insightful detail. Masai Mara Game Reserve is privileged to host the Big Five of Africa among an amazing plethora of mammals and over 450 species of birds. From July through September, view the Great Migration from the Serengeti National Park as it travels through Masai Mara looking for fresh pasture and water. But if you were to view the wildebeest, zebras, gazelles and elands from the sky in your hot air balloon, you would truly appreciate the awe-inspiring sight of close to 1.5 to 2 million animals thundering across the plains (read more on when is the best time to visit Masai Mara in south-west Kenya). Make bush walks a part of your distinct holiday activity in Africa to learn about the flora and visit a Maasai village nearby for an enriching peek into their centuries-old culture.
