Tanzania is primarily dependent on agriculture, which accounts to 50 percent of its Gross Domestic Product. Tanzania is the world's largest producer of sisal and cloves. Tanzania employs 85 percent of its work force.
Tanzanian farmers grow coffee, cotton, cashew nuts, tea, sisal, tobacco, clove pyrethrum and minerals etc, and it exports 75 percent of it. Tanzania tourism economy plays a major part too, and has a steady growth of tourist arrivals every year. Tourism accounts to about 16 percent of Tanzania's Gross Domestic Product.
Tanzania has very few manufacturing and processing plants. It imports a lot of goods. The main imports are machinery and transport equipment, textiles and clothing, building and construction materials, fertilizers, medicines, chemicals and petroleum products, food items and beverages.
