Fundu Lagoon - Pemba Island

Fundu Lagoon, a luxury beach resort, is located on Pemba Island adjacent to its sister island of Zanzibar. The hotel is situated on a remote and beautiful beach on the southwestern side of the island, and is only accessible by boat upon landing at the airstrip in Pemba.

Fundu Lagoon is the epitome of a "bare foot paradise" with a distinct Robinson Crusoe feeling in a remote and peaceful location. It has been designed for couples and groups of friends looking to escape the usual holiday crowds as well as divers and water sport enthusiasts who want more than the a standard diving and beach vacation. Fundu Lagoon is also a hot spot for honeymooners.

The main means of visiting Pemba Island are by light aircraft charter or schedule flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar Island. There is also a ferry service but this is not always reliable. The only airport is Chake Chake in the center of the Island, and the main port used by the ferry service is Mkoani in the southwest. After arriving at the airport, there is a short vehicle ride to Wesha Port on a newly built bitumen road that takes approximately 20 minutes thereafter connecting with a private speedboat service (20-25 minutes) from Wesha Port to Fundu Lagoon.

Relaxation Experience and Activities At Fundu Lodge Located On Pemba Island

Diving - Fundu Lagoon's professionally qualified team runs the diving and water sports facilities, and the area boasts some of the best marine environments in the world. Fundu Lagoon dives are conducted mainly on the Pemba Island west coast. Guests also dive around the Southern tip of Pemba including a long forgotten shipwreck. Most dives are wall dives where the pristine coral walls drop off to form almost vertical cliffs. Visibility averages around 20 meters and can increase up to 60 meters. The best time to dive is usually on an incoming tide. There is usually some form of current so most dives are conducted as drift dives where guest divers stay with experienced guides who carry a surface marker. The Fundu Lagoon Dive Center is equipped with new ScubaPro and Sherwood Scuba Equipment, and is fully operational throughout the year, offering diving, snorkeling, and PADI Dive Courses.
