GUIDE ON ELEWANA TORTILIS CAMP IN KENYA

Navigation Tip - Go Directly To Prices, Reviews, Map, Photos, Video & Room Rate Guide For Elewana Tortilis Camp

Elewana Tortilis Camp is a first-class tented camp in Amboseli National Park, Kenya's premier wildlife destination for observing resident and migratory elephants roam freely in a natural habitat. These animals have been the centerpiece of the research conducted by Cynthia Moss, and the camp guides have an intimate knowledge of some of the resident elephant herds name and lineage!

Learning so much from your expert guide about these graceful and social animals is a very special part of your dream tour of Kenya with AfricanMecca. The camp is situated secluded in the south-western portion of the park with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro and access to its 30,000 acre, private Kitirua Conservancy.

At 19340 feet, the extinct snowcapped volcano dominates the scenery and provides vital water to the plains in the park. Melting snow flows into underground springs that emerge in wetlands and swamps that attract an abundance of prey, predator and avi-fauna. Photographers will especially appreciate the views from the camp that lend to capturing images of some of Africa's largest pachyderms, as well as Thomson's gazelle, zebra, wildebeest and other grazing herbivore against the backdrop of Africa's highest mountain.

Tortilis is designed to remind you of the classic safaris in Africa that were popular with early explorers, and offers an exclusive boutique accommodation with only 18 rooms, so you are assured to receive the impeccable personalized service that you expect during a top-notch, luxurious trip to Amboseli Park.

Most of the guest accommodations are twin or double tents, but for families on an adventure travel in Kenya, the camp also offers a family tent and a two-bedroom boutique, private house. The makuti-covered tents are constructed of canvas with a thatched roof, and the open insect-proof windows allow fresh breezes to keep you cool during the day and to allow daylight in.

The private house features a separate sitting and dining area, and the veranda is one of the finest places on the property to see Mt. Kilimanjaro. Tortilis also have a swimming pool to cool off from the warmth of the day and offers massage, pedicure and manicure bush services – great for vacationing honeymooners who want some coddling.

As morning daylight spreads across the plains, you freshen up in your private en-suite bathroom and head out to your private veranda for an aromatic cup of coffee or tea. After having a heavenly breakfast, you join your guide for a morning game drive where you may locate lions, cheetahs and other stealthy predators resting after a night of hunting. Eland, impala, buffalo, giraffe and other foragers wander about, and you notice crane, heron, pelican and other waterfowls at the aquatic sources.

As your appetite grows, your AfricanMecca guide skillfully drives along the roads to return to the camp where you enjoy a splendid lunch before returning to your tent for a bit of journaling about your adventurous holiday in Africa. Wakeup after your short afternoon siesta before indulging in homemade cakes and biscuits with your afternoon tea, and thereafter, venture out again with your guide for an afternoon game drive or a Maasai guided nature walk in the indigenous conservancy. As the sun sets, you sip on a refreshing cocktail before sampling the edible delights of your evening meal.
